The Brexit deal reached between the EU and the U.K. still needs approval from lawmakers on both sides. Boris Johnson plans to have the House of Commons vote today, and it’s expected to pass. The EU Parliament will accept the accord provisionally on Jan. 1 and will meet to vote on it later in the new year.

Britain is officially outside the EU’s single market and customs union, free of the influence of the European Court of Justice, and with sovereignty over its waters.
