'I got so much out of the Ben Nicholson course........simply BRILLIANT'

I had so many other similair comments about this course whether on-line, or fac eto face, but of course face to face you get me as well into the bargain!!!! I would love some more support. Please do consider joining me on 29/30 July (Mon/Tues) for two full creative days.

Here is some of the preparation work that I did for this course

We will start by examing some of his earlier works before moving onto his jugs and cups. Students will soon build up a small portfolio of ideas based on their studies. You will explore simple card print blocks and work onto both paper and fabric. The course allows plenty of scope for personal development and the exercises can later be applied to any source material. Ideas can also be explored through fabric and stitch.

Ben Nicholson is a favourite artist of mine and I am sure that you will enjoy this course. These next few images show his earlier 'white relief' work, but I have added colour to my designs.

These two pieces show how simple blocks have also been made from drawings of jugs and pots. Notice the suggestion of stitch drawn onto these designs.

BEGINNERS DRAWING

This course took place the last weekend. I had so much fun with the students and I think that they did as well.

We discussed the title of this workshop and I agreed with one of the students that 'Drawing without Drawing' was a more fitting title. I shall call similar courses, by this title, in the future.

The students rose to each of the 5 challenges presented to them. Some had absolutely no experience, whereas others had a little or even more. This did not matter as nothing was competitive and eveyone could work at their own pace.

Once the students had made some headway with the collaborative part of the project (the first two images) where the students worked all over the sheet in pastel having initially drawn what they could see in the room as a continuous line. The sheets were then divided out and each student finished their sheet. A strip was cut off and then cut up into further oblongs and squares. (See below). We had fun playing with these smaller units and studnets could see the potential.

For the next exercise I had them working in charcoal to create an expressive drawing.

Next, working blind, the students used a candle to draw a bowl of fruit. Guessing at where the drawn marks were, they added in some wax crayons and then over the top added ink which revealed their drawings.

These were also cut up and rearranged with some fabulous outcomes.

We did two very different activities the on day 2, but I think you have had enough images for now.
