A Message from Your Senior Pastor
At approximately 12:30 a.m. last night the Baton Rouge Bomb Squad detonated a suspicious package found in the parking lot by the kitchen of the Casual Worship Center at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
The item was initially discovered around 9:00 p.m. by the security guard hired to patrol the church after the arson fires.
He immediately notified the Baton Rouge Police Department and ensured no one went near its location.
The bomb squad determined the safest course of action was to destroy the package through a controlled demolition.
We are grateful for the quick and professional response of the Baton Rouge Police Department and the brave members of the bomb squad.
While this turn of events is disturbing, we remember and find strength in the words of Psalm 27:1-3.
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh—
  and my adversaries and foes—
              they shall stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.
As disciples of Jesus we also remember and follow his example by praying for the person(s) responsible for this heinous act with the words he prayed as he was being crucified, “ Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
As further developments arise, I will let you know.

Grace & Peace,

Rev. Donnie Wilkinson

PS: As people of faith our response to situations like this show the world what we believe. Christ calls us to be people of peace who respond to the pain of the world through acts of compassion. Wouldn’t it be great if we turned this act of evil into an incredible outpouring of love for our hungry neighbors? You can help us do exactly that by giving to Red Stick Together. Over the last eight weeks Red Stick Together has fed almost 5,000 people. What if, in response to this terrible event, we raise enough money to feed 5,000 more? Click below to give today.
