Greetings!

The Regnart Creek Trail Vote is Sept 17th

THIS IS THE MAKE OR BREAK DAY.  On Tuesday Sept 17th, the City Council will vote on whether the city should continue working on the Regnart Creek Trail. The anti-trailers will all be there in force ready to speak against the trail. We expect there will be 20-30 anti-trail speakers.

WE NEED A LARGE NUMBER OF TRAIL SUPPORTERS TO SHOW UP OR THE TRAIL WILL DIE. We need at least 20-30 speakers and 100+ people to come show their support even if they don't speak. Please wear a green shirt/top - any color green is fine. We'll have stickers for everyone to wear. We hope you can make it!

We have to be honest, we really don't know how this City Council vote will go. The 10 or so super vocal anti-trail residents have pushed back vocally and agressively against the trail at every single Bike Ped Commission meeting and every single City Council meeting. The City Staff have capitulated, going well beyond reasonable measures in meeting their demands and spending 100+ hours meeting with them. The net result is that there are many people, including City Council members, that may think their inaccurate statements are true.

We are in the strange position that 10 super vocal anti-trail residents may win against 1,600 pro-trail residents, just because they are the relentlessly squeakier wheel.

We need to show the strength of our numbers or we will lose this vote.

It's especially important to have children and teens come to speak. We've been told by several council members that children and teens make a huge impact on them. It's a great learning opportunity for kids on civic participation and we've seen how proud it makes them to stand up and speak for something they value.

Mark your calendars to come to the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 pm.

Anti-trailers driving up the trail costs to make it fail

Over the past 12 months, the anti-trailers have relentlessly followed a strategy of making expensive and unnecessary demands in the trail design to drive up the costs until the trail becomes un-viable.

As a result of the city trying to appease them, the estimated costs have more than doubled in the past 12 months.

The truth is that the trail can be built for a significantly lower cost. We don't need the gold-plated cadillac version of the trail. We just need sensible improvements that make the trail accessible and safe for all. The real cost of the trail is likely around $2.5M with new wooden fencing throughout.

In comparison, the Linda Vista trail, which has very similar features -- houses abutting the trail on one side and steep slope on the other side -- was approved to be constructed for 1/2 of the lowest cost estimate for the Regnart Creek trail, in terms of cost per linear foot. The primary thing making this trail so much more expensive is anti-trail residents artificially driving up the costs.

We should not let them win, using these kinds of tactics.
