Dear :

On this coming Thursday, July 23 (6pm @ Watermans) Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials are holding a public information meeting about replacing First Bridge at Pulpit Harbor. This will be the first (and likely the only) opportunity for the North Haven Community to understand what the MDOT has planned.

A giant eyesore.

They want to place what will look like a highway bridge (see below) at the top of one of Maine's most well known, picturesque working and recreational harbors. They claim their design is final.

A coalition of concerned organizations and individuals has asked MDOT to develop an alternative design - a bridge that is of appropriate scale for Pulpit Harbor and Mill Stream setting.

We need your help. Please come to the meeting and voice your support for our coalition's efforts toward urging MDOT to change their design.

Pulpit Harbor and North Haven deserve better than MDOT's current design. Well designed, attractive public structures are an important element of North Haven's character and, as such, its economy. We have many fine examples around the island. Our only and best chance to influence MDOT's design is if the North Haven Community speaks with a unified voice.

Please forward this to anyone you know who may be willing to come pack Watermans and support our coalition.

Sincerely yours,

Nibs Nichols
Executive Director
