IMPACT 2023

Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation ~ December 2023

Reflecting

Looking back on a very full year, I am thankful for the time you give the Foundation, for the trust you have in us to allocate your gifts effectively, and for your dedication to supporting local health care.

You will see below that we have much to celebrate and be thankful for. We work in, and for, a community that is willing to step-up. We have received exceptional support from businesses, residents, visitors, young and old, all working together for the health of the Highlands. I am thankful for your support.

Over the triumphs and challenges of this year, we have worked diligently to listen to the community and provide honest and clear communication worthy of the time you spend reading them.

The future is exciting as we work towards bringing up-to-date Diagnostic Imaging, including a CT scanner and digital Mammography, to Haliburton County. Our unwavering commitment to community health and wellness includes continued support for needs-based initiatives like transportation, meals for seniors, HHHS staff education and capital equipment purchases. Each gift in support of these pillars has a deep and meaningful impact, and is an expression of a community that cares.

Thank you for being part of our community, and for your dedication to optimizing health and wellbeing in the Highlands.

In January the Believe in the Magic of Giving holiday campaign raised an incredible $274,021 to set us up for a great year.

In February, a delightful local veteran, James Lee, chose to present the Foundation with a generous legacy gift in person.

May and June were hard for our communities as HHHS made the difficult decision to amalgamate two ERs into one. The Foundation felt the fear and concerns from the community and we worked as best we could to communicate with donors and answer your questions. We are truly grateful for those who have stood by the Foundation and those who asked hard questions and have returned to give their support to the Foundation again.

In July, HHHS announced that the application for a CT Scanner and Mammography had been approved. Access to this equipment will help recruit healthcare workers and keep EMS available to respond to local emergency needs. The Foundation is committed to raise funds needed for these important purchases and has started working on a campaign plan.

The Matt Duchene Charity Golf Classic in July surpassed everyone's wildest dreams with an incredible $209,000 raised toward the purchase of Diagnostic Imaging equipment for the Highlands. Thanks to a fabulous planning committee, amazing sponsors and incredible support from the community and volunteers - it was a day to remember!

It would not be August without the Health Radiothon on MooseFM93.5. Rick Lowes helped raise over $33,000 for Community Support Services Transportation needs, getting us closer to replacing aging vehicles that help folks get to important, life-changing medical appointments.

Volunteers were celebrated in September at Sir Sam's Ski/Ride to thank them for generously giving of their time and talent throughout the year.

In October, Minden Subaru signed on to sponsor the 50/50 lottery which is once again Driven by Minden Subaru!

On Giving Tuesday in November, Wally Ozog announced a $50,000 matching gift to honour his family. Many donors have come forward with their gifts, inspired by Wally's generosity. Thank you Wally!

The December 2023 Believe in the Magic of Giving campaign launched with the heartwarming success story of Ros Medley and Georgia Shank. With the help of Community Support Services' wellness programs and Georgia's kind and determined coaching, Ros is embracing her new lease on life full of fitness, friendship and vitality.
