Researcher spotlight: Lourdes Aurora Coronado-Álvarez,
postdoctoral researcher, writes from the Institute of Oceanological Research of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC)
Lourdes Aurora Coronado-Álvarez graduated in Natural Resources Management in 2009 with honors from the Universidad Autónoma de Quintana Roo campus Cozumel, in this period she developed the research line of sustainable development for the conservation of water bodies on the Island. She graduated from master’s and doctoral programs in marine ecology in 2013 and 2018, respectively, from the Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada B.C. (CICESE), Mexico. She developed the research line on CO2 flux at the air-sea interface by studying the time series of an oceanographic buoy. Her work is the only one of its kind in Mexico. She has experience in federal, state, and municipal governmental work in rural natural resource management and fisheries. She has published articles in indexed journals and book chapters as the first author and many others in collaboration. She has taught from the bachelor to postgraduate level. She has also served as a synodal committee member for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and co-director at the master's level. In 2020 she was recognized as a Mexican National System of Researchers member. Finally, she is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Oceanological Research of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), the emphasis of her research is directed to the management of databases complying with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles. Using different programming languages, as well as in the estimations of carbonate system variables from empirical algorithms applied to satellite data with wide coverage such as the Mexican Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, these models are validated with historical measurements using Bayesian analysis.
