World Ocean Day & UN Ocean Conference 2022
Welcome to June and to World Ocean Day on the 8th! We know Ocean Day should be every day, but let’s take a deep breath and celebrate the ocean’s recognition during this month. Let’s take this advantage to amplify our voices and promote the relevance of the ocean in our communities while calling for better marine policies. Are you going to make something special? Does your local NGO, association, etc, have something planned?

Also, this year, from 27th June to 1st of July is taking place the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal. A lot of action is going to happen in the programmed side events. We bring you here some in-person events in case you have the chance to attend in person but, if not, we also have a link for other Livestream events.

Podcast Recommendations
In this newsletter, we wanted to share with you two interesting podcasts.
The first one is called Jess explores, hosted by Jess, a PhD student in marine social sciences at the University of Cork, Ireland.
If you are interested in marine curious facts, you want to know how to refloat a healthy dolphin or the benefits of open water swimming, this is your podcast!

The second podcast is called AfriCan Geopardy and is hosted by Dr. Ife Sinachi and Dr. Dyhia Belhabib, where you can find very interesting (and for all public!) conversations about the ocean and African geopolitics, among other topics. It is really worth listening to.

Interesting readings
We couldn’t wait to share with you the ‘Popular & Ivy’ seasonal journal, by the Shackleton Research Trust.
This online journal provides articles with very interesting topics, from inclusion and decolonization in science, the experience of researchers and advocates dealing with climate issues, to dealing with Academia paths and looking for other non-traditional research pathways.
Also, be aware: this trust offers some scholarship programs for underrepresented science students.

Based on the published paper “Blue Justice and the co-production of hermeneutical resources for small-scale fisheries”, written by Milena Arias Schreiber, Ratana Chuenpagdee and Svein Jentoft and published in Marine Policy, we have for you this very useful Blue Justice Glossary, with availability in English, Spanish and Japanese.

And finally, to catch up with some great lectures we bring you here this special issue on ‘Globalizing Conservation by Confronting Parachute Science’ by the journal Conservation Science and Practice (and it’s open access!).
