Cal High Spanish Placement Tests (8th grader)

Who? For students who are native speakers that regularly use Spanish at home or students who have done multiple years of intensive immersion programs.

What? The World Language Department will be hosting a placement test for students wishing to test into Spanish 2 (skipping Spanish 1) or Spanish 3 (skipping Spanish 1 and/or 2).

* These tests were created so that the teachers can get a sense of students’ current abilities and if students will be successful at skipping levels. Students do not need to study for the placement test. There will be both a written exam and an oral interview.

*The World Language department has a strict policy that, due to the rigorous nature of the courses and material taught, we highly recommend that students do NOT take online courses to skip levels. These courses do not adequately replace a year of classroom exposure to the language. Also students may NOT skip levels 3 or 4 of Spanish.

When?  Monday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. OR Thursday, August 29 at 3:00 p.m. (the test takes 1-1.5 hours). Contact Sr. Tinetti if you are unable to attend either date.

Where? California High School, World Language Building, Classroom #10

How? Contact Sr. Tinetti. Students may stop by his room (WL-10) to sign up in person or students/parents may email him at stinetti@srvusd.net

What should I do for registration? Students signing up for classes should register for the level of Spanish they would be in if they were not taking the placement exam. If/When students are placed in a higher level, Sr. Tinetti will contact the counselors and tell them to advance students to the appropriate level of Spanish.

PTA Updates

Iron Horse PTA has open positions for next year

Come learn what we are all about. We are energetic, fun parents who care about the kids in our community and want to make a difference through advocacy, community building events, staff appreciation, and more.

The PTA is where the parent voice makes a difference and PTA Leaders are needed to keep the association at Iron Horse going.

We are always looking for new parents to join and run the PTA as the students of our current board members move on to high school. Please come to the next meeting and see how you can help, however small of an effort. Most commitments require less than 3 hours of time / month. We have a lot of openings on the board and committee chairs and the election is just a month away. Any and ALL Iron Horse parents and guardians are welcome to be a part of the PTA!

Reflections Art Program

Does your child like to create? Do they love making art using different materials, equipment or with their body? If so, PTA’s Reflections Art Program will be the perfect project for them this summer!

Reflections provides an opportunity for students to express themselves creatively and to receive recognition for original works of art. Because they don’t need to submit their creations to your school’s PTA until this fall, they can use the summer to plan and create their masterpiece that will express this year’s theme: "Accepting Imperfection."

They can show their creativity in any of the following categories:

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts

For more information on the Reflections Art Program and participation rules, please go to SRVCPTA’s Reflections Webpage, or contact the Council Reflections Chair at reflections@srvcouncilpta.org.
