December 7, 2023 - INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The Indiana Health Industry Forum (IHIF) is pleased to announce that Senator Ed Charbonneau has been selected as the organization’s 2023 Legislator of the Year. As Chair of the Senate Health and Provider Services Committee, Senator Charbonneau’s leadership was instrumental in the passage of the, “Share the Savings” bill during the state’s 2023 legislative session. He has been an advocate for patients and medical innovation throughout his career.
Senator Charbonneau has served in the Indiana Senate since 2007 where he represents Pulaski and White counties and portions of Jasper and Porter counties. Prior to being elected, Charbonneau served as president and CEO of The Methodist Hospitals, Inc., a role that provided unique insight to the challenges of healthcare delivery.
Signed by Governor Holcomb in May 2023, the, “Share the Savings” law requires pharmacy benefit managers, who serve as the middlemen between pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies, and health insurance companies, to pass on the discounts they receive from drug makers to patients, at the point of sale, thereby greatly reducing patient out of pocket costs at the pharmacy counter.

"Thanks to IHIF's work, health care standards in Indiana are rapidly evolving and have significantly improved. I appreciate the recognition and will continue to partner with them to craft legislation that improves health care options for all communities in Indiana."
