IHE News and Updates
Fall 2019
July 1st brought about a new year for the IHE, as we kicked off another financial year. We have in place a new tracking system for our expenses and revenue sources that will assist us in our record keeping. In addition, we continue to apply for and seek out new sources of funding for the IHE.

With the beginning of the school year, we have renewed our partnerships with community schools and are working to train and educate teachers and administrators. This August, we held a Nebraska Holocaust Educators Consortium meeting in Ashland, NE. The NHEC is a group of teachers who is committed to Holocaust education in the English or social studies classrooms. These meetings allow teachers to share upcoming events, resources, and ideas. There is considerable buzz around the states making Holocaust education mandatory. Thirteen states have done this so far. Senator Sara Howard brought this legislation up in the Nebraska legislature last spring. In addition, there is federal legislation (Never Again Act) that is being put forth to mandate it nation-wide. In the event that this happens, the NHEC discussed how and what we can do to create an easy, go-to site for teachers. Our first Echoes and Reflections Training will take place on December 13 th for pre-service social studies teachers from UNO. We are grateful to UNO for our ongoing relationship and their desire again this year to give their student-teachers a background in Holocaust education.

Lastly, our planning for Week of Understanding and Yom Hashoah for 2020 is in full swing! We have been in contact with our speakers and are excited to share the details with you in upcoming communication.
Mark your calendars for these important dates coming up in 2020!
