IDDSI in the UK
We are thrilled to share that the British Dietetics Association has recently announced its formal support for the adoption of the IDDSI Framework in the UK.
IDDSI at the World Dysphagia Summit
The first World Dysphagia Summit took place in Barcelona, Spain on September 22/23, 2017 following the European Society of Swallowing Disorders Conference (ESSD). The move towards a global focus on dysphagia around the world is very exciting. IDDSI Board Members Dr. Julie Cichero (co-chair) and Dr. Catriona Steele participated in the event. Dr. Cichero presented an excellent overview of IDDSI, outlining the evidence based process that the committee used in the development of the IDDSI Framework, descriptors and testing methods.

We were pleased to find a number of professionals and researchers from around the globe have incorporated IDDSI into their practice and research.

IDDSI Transitions
We have had a few recent changes at IDDSI:

We warmly welcome Alen Dominguez on board as our new Marketing and Communications consultant. We would like to also extend our deep gratitude to Kevin Ly, for his previous work and support for IDDSI.

We would also like to extend a big thank you to our past Board Member Sonke Stanchus from Germany. Sonke was instrumental in the first IDDSI pilot project in Kempen, Germany and worked diligently to implement IDDSI into clinical practice. Details can be found here.

We would like to warmly welcome Dr. Jan Vanderwegen from Belgium as our newest IDDSI board member. Dr. Vanderwegen is an ENT and rehabilitation-physician, working at the University Hospital Saint-Pieter, Brussels, Belgium as well as a Professor at the Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, Antwerp, Belgium. He is the president of the Belgian Society of Swallowing Disorders (BSSD) and a member of DRS, ESSD and IDDSI. Dr. Vanderwegen is also part of the Belgian-Dutch taskforce on translating the IDDSI to a cross-cultural Flemish/Dutch version.
