ASHA awards IDDSI Outstanding Contributions in International Achievement

The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) recently recognized the work of IDDSI with a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions in International Achievement. The IDDSI board is honored by this award and very appreciative of the ongoing support from ASHA for the work we have undertaken. The award will be presented at the ASHA conference in November 2016.

Canadian Dysphagia Industry Partners agree to start IDDSI implementation
Canadian dysphagia industry representatives gathered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for an informational meeting in May 2015. The IDDSI MAPA (monitor-aware-prepare-adopt) implementation process was very well received and we are excited to report that the Canadian Dysphagia Industry Group has agreed to fully transition to the IDDSI framework and descriptors by January 1, 2019.

Interprofessional collaboration in UK and China moves IDDSI forward
Recently announced from the UK, Joanna Instone, Head of External Affairs and Policy Officer (England and Wales) from the British Dietetic Association and Dr Elizabeth Boaden, Clinical Lead for Dysphagia at Mid Cheshire Hospital, Senior research Fellow at University of Central Lancashire from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, will co-chair the UK IDDSI Interprofessional Steering Task Force. The task force will be meeting in mid-September 2016 to discuss next MAPA steps for IDDSI.
In China, the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Implementation Committee (IDDSIC), has been formed to set up a working plan and procedures to implement IDDSI standards in great China, including mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The core committee members, Dr. Grace Hao, Dr. Rumi Wang, Dr. Huichang Zhou and Dr. Jianshe Chen will lead an interprofessional committee with representatives from speech pathology, medicine, rehabilitation sciences, food science and caregivers. Translation work has already begun and the committee was formally announced at the Chinese International Speech-Language and Hearing Association (CISHA) meeting in June 2016.
