2024-2025 ICUL Board Election Results

The voting period for the $70 - $345 Million asset category for a position on the 2024-2025 ICUL Board of Directors has ended. Mark Peters of Employees Credit Union has won the election. The following directors will be inducted at the ICUL Annual Meeting on Thursday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. during the Iowa Credit Union Convention in Des Moines:

 

  • $0-$70 Million: Brad Mertens, Metco Credit Union, Cedar Rapids (incumbent)
  • $70-$345 Million: Mark Peters, Employees Credit Union, Estherville (incumbent)
  • $345 Million & Over: David Klavitter, Dupaco Community Credit Union, Dubuque

Iowa Division of Credit Unions Releases Guidance Documents on HF 131

The Iowa Division of Credit Unions (IDCU) has released guidance for the implementation of the various provisions of HF 131. The guidance addresses some of the questions posed to Superintendent Averill during the recent ICUL HF 131 webinar, including policy for compensation structure, attendance at board meetings and board meeting minutes guidance.

Ascentra Credit Union Champions Highlight the Importance of Advocacy in CU Times Podcast

Ascentra Credit Union employees Matthew De Bisschop and Alvaro Macias participate in ICUL's Advocacy Champion program, promoting engagement in advocacy within our Iowa credit union movement.


They recently recorded a podcast episode with CU Times discussing the role of state-level advocacy and the process of getting HF 131 passed in Iowa. The two also highlighted the champions program and why it's critical for credit unions to get involved in advocacy. Listen to the episode here.

Register for a CUPAC Summer Social in Des Moines on July 16

Join us in Des Moines at Confluence Brewing Company on July 16 for a fun-filled happy hour - register here!


We'll be networking and engaging in credit union advocacy and fundraising. The Credit Union Political Action Committee (CUPAC) has a goal to raise $7,500 to support ongoing Iowa credit union advocacy initiatives.


If you are unable to attend, please consider making a purchase from the CUPAC Store to support the event. The store will be open July 8-26.


The Sioux City CUPAC Summer Social, previously scheduled for July 11, has been postponed to August 1. Registration is available here.

Iowa Credit Unions to be Celebrated at the Iowa State Fair on August 15

Credit Union Day at the Iowa State Fair is Thursday, August 15.


This year’s theme focuses on financial literacy and will be a fun-filled day for our Iowa credit union community to share the credit union difference with fellow Iowans, fairgoers and state legislators. Iowa credit union employees can help volunteer at various activity stations within the booth and pass out swag.


If you would like to help, please sign-up here. Please limit 2-3 volunteers per credit union.

Participate in the July 26 #ILoveMyCreditUnion Social Media Blitz

The Illinois Credit Union League is leading a nationwide social media "blitz" event on July 26. Credit unions are asked to participate by posting, and encouraging their members to post, with the hashtag #ILoveMyCreditUnion. The goal of this social media blitz is to raise awareness about credit unions.
