Puerto Rico Negrx Festival

El Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo celebrated the first Puerto Rico Negrx Festival at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santurce on May 25th. This festival celebrates Afro influence by offering crafts, exhibitions, and workshops to highlight the importance of honoring and sharing the Afro-descendant legacy. The program included the Puerto Rico Negrx exhibition, beatboxing workshops, instrument creation, and culinary tastings. Musical performances were also offered by artists such as Ofrenda, Siete Nueve, William Cepeda, and DJ Mano Santa.

Movement Festival

The 2024 Movement Festival of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture highlighted arts and culture through performances by dancers from local schools, academies, and companies. The festival featured dancers such as Tito Ortos and Tamara Livolsi, salsa and bomba workshops, and concluded with community activities. The performances took place from May 3 to 5 at the Francisco Arriví Theater.

Poetry Out Loud

Last Friday, May 10, the ICP Office of Support for the Arts honored the talented Amir Trinidad Vidal, the national representative in the Poetry Out Loud recitation competition, an initiative funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.


The event was a celebration of his journey, attended by his family, mentor poets, ICP executives, and media to witness the presentation of a well-deserved recognition.


For the second consecutive year, Amir received an honorable mention in the semifinals and ranked among the top twelve competitors from all U.S. states and territories.

Puerto Rican Parade by Junte Boricua

On May 18, 2024, the opening of Junte Boricua was celebrated with the first Puerto Rican Parade in Puerto Rico. The event offered various artistic and musical performances in the plazas of the walled city in Old San Juan. This activity, held on Constitution Avenue, exalted our rich heritage and Puerto Rican identity. The closing of Junte Boricua will be the Campechada event in Santurce honoring Victoria Espinosa on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, 2024, on Ponce de León Avenue.

Internacional Day Museum

On May 18, International Museum Day was celebrated, highlighting the role of museums in education and research.


This year, inspired by the theme "Museums for Education and Research," the focus was on the role of cultural institutions in promoting a comprehensive educational experience. This was demonstrated through a series of workshops, including topics such as scrapbooking and caring for personal collections. To conclude the week, a presentation of the "Anthology of Vieques Poetry" was held. Additionally, there were guided tours at the ICP Headquarters Gallery featuring the exhibition "POLI/Gráfica de Puerto Rico: Latin America and the Caribbean."

Mid-Atlantic Arts in Puerto Rico

On May 28, the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP) held an informative session titled "Grants Offered by Mid-Atlantic Arts for Producers and 501(c)(3) Organizations." This event was part of the 61st Puerto Rican Theater Festival, organized by the ICP.


The session featured Juan Souki, Executive Director of Mid-Atlantic Arts, who provided valuable information about grant opportunities available to producers and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, Jessabet Vivas Capó, Programmatic Advisor of the ICP, presented the study on the economic and social impact of the arts and cultural sector in Puerto Rico.


The event took place at the Vicente Murga Theater, located at Ponce campus of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. The activity was an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn more about funding possibilities and the support available for the development of cultural and artistic projects on the island.
