Greetings!

Since the last research update, IC3 researchers starting teaching a public course on DeFi, studied new candidates for symmetric cryptographic primitives, participated in a DeFi panel, and more!
You can join lectures (10:30am-12:30pm PT Thursdays and recorded) for the the 2021 DeFi MOOC!
IC3 Associate Director Andrew Miller (UIUC) and Faculty Member Dawn Song (Berkeley) are among the instructors for a fall 2021 course on DeFi, open to all! It will cover topics including DEXs, oracles, decentralized lending, and more.

CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS
A recording of the FC 2021 DeFi Workshop panel is available! The panel was hosted by Lewis Gudgeon (Imperial College) and featured IC3 Associate Director Andrew Miller (UIUC), Tarun Chitra (Gauntlet), Robert Leshner (Compound Labs), and Jeremy Musighi (Balancer Labs).
The authors study new candidates for symmetric cryptographic primitives that leverage alternation between linear functions over Z2 and Z3 to support fast protocols for secure multiparty computation (MPC).
Itai Dinur (Ben-Gurion University), Steven Goldfeder (Cornell Tech), Tzipora Halevi (Brooklyn College, CUNY), Yuval Ishai (Technion), Mahimna Kelkar (Cornell Tech), Vivek Sharma (Graduate Center, CUNY), Greg Zaverucha (Microsoft Research)
Sarah Azouvi (Protocol Labs) presented “Private attacks in longest chain PoS protocols with single secret leader election” (paper to be released shortly), which will appear at AFT ‘21
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENTS
IC3 Partner Protocol Labs will host Consensus Day ‘21 on October 6th. Talks will focus on scaling decentralized systems.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR IC3 STUDENTS
IC3 partner VMware is seeking MS and PhD students to join their research group as interns and work on distributed systems, storage, networking, security, virtualization frameworks, new hardware and architecture paradigms, machine learning, cloud computing, and more.
Learn more and apply on the VMware Careers page.
Contact Matthew Wendorf, Senior Technical Recruiter for Universities, (mwendorf@vmware.com) with any questions, or if you are interested in a research focus without a listed position.
Please send any new research or presentations to sarahallen@cornell.edu to be included in the next research update.

Best wishes,
