Greetings IC3 Friends😊!

April was a fruitful month with latest cutting-edge research and exciting developments in our community. This edition also highlights upcoming events and IC3's impact on both academia and the industry. Enjoy reading! 😎

NEW RESEARCH

PROF: Fair Transaction-Ordering in a Profit-Seeking World by Kushal Babel (Cornell, IC3), Yan Ji (Cornell, IC3), Ari Juels (Cornell, IC3), and Mahimna Kelkar(Cornell, IC3):

  • The authors proposed PROF, a solution that establishes a private mempool that protects transactions from MEV auctions. PROF sequence transactions fairly while ensuring their uptake by profit-maximizing block validators.

Piano: Extremely Simple, Single-Server PIR with Sublinear Server Computation by Mingxun Zhou (CMU, IC3), Andrew Park (CMU), Elaine Shi (CMU, IC3), and Wenting Zheng (CMU):

  • The authors have developed a sublinear-time single-server pre-processing Private Information Retrieval (PIR) scheme that achieves optimal client storage and server computation, relying only on the assumption of the existence of One Way Functions (OWF). This scheme only utilizes lightweight cryptography such as PRFs and it is the first practical implementation of a single-server sublinear-time PIR scheme.

Simplex Consensus: A Simple and Fast Consensus Protocol by Benjamin Y Chan (Cornell, IC3) and Rafael Pass (Tel-Aviv University, Cornell Tech, IC3):

  • The authors presented a theoretical framework for analyzing the efficiency of consensus protocols, specifically in the "rotating leader/random leader" model of consensus. They introduced a new consensus protocol described as the simplest known protocols with a simpler security proof that matches or improves on the efficiency of the state-of-the-art protocols.
