IASWCD Announces Director

of New Resilient Indiana Program

Indianapolis (February 7, 2024) - Meg Leader has been hired as Director of the new Resilient Indiana Program.

No stranger to Indiana, Ms. Leader was previously a Conservation Director with the Vermillion County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Director of Soil Health with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and most recently served as Director of Conservation Programs with the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD).

The Resilient Indiana Program will help Indiana's Soil and Water Conservation Districts meet their needs for on-the-ground technical assistance. This new program is made possible through the financial support of USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Clean Water Indiana.

Liz Rice, IASWCD Executive Director, states, "Meg is very familiar with conservation efforts in Indiana and nationwide. Her knowledge of and passion for enabling locally-led conservation is inspiring and we are thrilled to have her on the team."

Meg grew up on a hobby farm in upstate New York. There, she was a 10-year member of 4-H and raised every kind of animal, except for pigs.

"I'm very grateful for this opportunity to lead this new and amazing 'Resilient Indiana' program. I am excited to return to Indiana and work with the state's Soil and Water Conservation Districts and producers. Over the next year, the hiring of eleven technicians will reinforce conservation efforts across the state. I'm proud to be a part of the continuing success Indiana demonstrates in cover crops and the adoption of other conservation practices that will make an impact our children and grandchildren will thank us for," states Leader.

Meg is looking forward to meeting with district staff and producers across the state in the coming months. Any SWCD or individual that would like to find out more about the program can contact her at meg-leader@iaswcd.org.
