ACTE Celebrates Black History Month

Thanks to Carter G. Woodson, since February 1976, Black History Month has been designated as the time to honor and commemorate Black Americans' history and significant contributions. While this may have been coincidental, the simultaneous celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, alongside Black History Month, emphasizes the significance of recognizing Black Americans' historical and contemporary achievements, particularly within CTE, highlighting the pivotal role of both in our nation.

From the challenges faced by figures like Booker T. Washington to the achievements of Black communities in securing economic empowerment, the essence of CTE weaves intricately through the tapestry of African American heritage. Black students participate at a rate of 86% (2019) in CTE, underscoring the legacy and importance of CTE and Black Americans in this country. As we delve into stories of resilience, innovation, and determination, a narrative unfolds where CTE catalyzes individual success and is a pillar of community advancement within the Black community. By examining the intersection of Black history and CTE, we pay homage to the past while illuminating pathways toward a more equitable and prosperous future.

ACTE Celebrates Women’s History Month

Overcoming historical barriers, women have increasingly leveraged career and technical education (CTE) to break stereotypes and pursue diverse professional avenues. From aviation and automotive technology to construction and cybersecurity, women have forged paths of excellence, challenged norms, and reshaped the landscape of CTE. Women have gained the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in industries where they were once underrepresented.

As ACTE commemorates Women's History Month, we invite you to explore East Valley Institute Technology's (EVIT) tribute, highlighting their programs and encouraging young women to pursue careers in nontraditional fields. Join us in celebrating women's resilience, innovation, and achievements, both past and present, as we strive for a more inclusive and equitable future in education and workforce.
