We enjoyed an eventful Piuraaġiaqta last week/weekend! Take a look at just a few of the highlights including the parade (featuring our Student Government) and also our great Talent Show and Minute to Win it events!

We had a wonderful campus visit last Saturday with the Arctic Encounter Symposium. Nearly a hundred conference participants flew to Utqiaġvik for the day and came out to NARL, where they toured the tiny house, the science lab, and the main building. Dean Sialofi and Executive Assistant Pelia created a spectacular niqi-themed charcuterie board and students got to visit with Senator Murkowski and other distinguished guests.

AIHEC 2024 IC Student Video

Students Vincent Elkins, Patricia Alberca, Tatiana Lavaka, Kahelelani Moli, Faith Muavae and Associate Dean of Students, Simon Aina, and Wellness Specialist, Kalolaine Uhila, took part in this year's American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) conference. As a part of their experience, they created this great video to showcase their participation and insights gained from the event.

We welcome Amanda Sialofi back to the Iḷisaġvik family! Amanda is now our Dean of Administration.

Amanda grew up in Anchorage, AK and completed her undergrad studies with Wayland Baptist University. In 2011, she moved to Utqiaġvik and worked over a decade with Iḷisaġvik College. She first served as the Administrative Assistant to the Allied Health program, then shortly after became the Allied Health Program Coordinator, leading various programming, student advising, and IC adjunct until 2016, when she became the Dean of Students.

Amanda relocated back to Anchorage, AK due to personal circumstances, but remained a dedicated ally through temp support to assist with the Student Services transition as well as volunteering her time during Elders & Youth Conferences and summer camp programming. While in Anchorage, Amanda worked as an Advocacy Program Manager for the Alaska Native Justice Center providing oversight for staff, grants, and projects focused on domestic violence and sexual assault. She most recently served as the Director of Covey Academy, the education and employment program with Covenant House Alaska, assisting with the development and promotion of workforce and training opportunities for underserved youth. Amanda holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, Master of Philosophy in Criminal Justice and she hopes to complete her PhD dissertation within the next couple of years.

Amanda’s office is located at our main campus, building 360. She can be reached via phone at 907-852-1768 or via email at amanda.sialofi@ilisagvik.edu.

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Amanda back!
