Upcoming Scheduled Lane and Ramp Closures

June 7-16

Motorists can anticipate the following scheduled lane and ramp closures below as contractor crews continue to complete work along the corridor. All construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Before traveling, check roadway conditions by using VDOT’s free mobile app, which offers information about road conditions, traffic, incidents, construction, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather, and more. Information is also available at 511Virginia.org or by calling 511 while in Virginia.

Motorists should be prepared for a daytime single-lane closure on South Military Highway at the I-64 overpass June 12-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Motorists should also anticipate the following overnight alternating, single-lane closures:

  • I-64 in both directions from Bowers Hill to Shell Road (approximate mile marker 295) June 7-16 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • I-64 in both directions from the High Rise Bridge to Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) June 7-16 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should anticipate daytime flagging operations on Shell Road near the I-64 overpass June 7-16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists should also anticipate the following scheduled overnight closures and detours:

Overnight closure and detour of Great Bridge Boulevard north at the I-64 overpass (between Tennyson Street and Libertyville Road/Finck Lane) June 7 and June 11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below. Signed detours will be in place.

  • Left (or continue) on Dominion Boulevard
  • Right on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard

Overnight closure and detour of the I-64 east ramp to I-464 south (exit 291B) June 10-12 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 


Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on I-64 east
  • Take exit 2 to George Washington Highway
  • Use cloverleaf ramps to join I-64 west
  • Take exit 291B to I-464 south/Route 168 south
64 east to 464 south detour

Overnight closure and detour of the I-464 north off-ramp to I-64 east (exit 1B) June 10-12 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below.

Overnight closure and detour of the on-ramp to I-64 east from George Washington Highway south June 12-14 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below:


  • Continue on George Washington Highway south
  • Turn right onto Margaret Booker Dr.
  • Turn left onto Galberry Rd.
  • Turn right onto George Washington Highway north
  • Turn left onto Military Highway
  • Access the ramp to I-64 east from Military Highway
17 south to 64 E

Overnight closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Route 168/Chesapeake Expressway June 13-14 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should use the cloverleaf detour below.
