I-10 Widening and Reconstruction Project

Monthly Public Outreach and Communication Report

State Project H.004100

Project Status

Progress continues along the westbound corridor of the I-10 Widening and Reconstruction Project. On Aug. 1, crews began installing H-piles in the ground along I-10 westbound behind Baywood Ave. in preparation to begin construction of the barrier and sound wall. Fabrication of the wall form is estimated to begin early/ mid September.

In City Park Lake, crews are dewatering and excavating the cofferdam cells in preparation for the construction of the bridge pier footings, which is estimated to begin mid-August. Once the pier footings have been installed, the permanent bridge columns for the new I-10 westbound bridge deck will begin being constructed. This operation remains ongoing from Monday through Saturday during daytime hours.

Drainage operations continue along I-10 westbound alongside Baywood Ave. from E. Lakeshore to Ebony Ave., with storm drain pipes and catch basins being installed. This is expected to be completed late summer. Additionally in this area, crews are wrapping up drilling foundation shafts and pouring concrete for the abutment wall near I-10 westbound near E. Lakeshore Dr. This operation is anticipated for completion mid/ late August.

While work is ongoing, residents and motorists throughout the corridor can expect to see an increase in truck traffic, as well as an increase in noise during the day. Construction activities continue to be monitored by various noise and vibration monitors throughout the corridor.

On November 27, 2023, E. Lakeshore Dr. was closed where it passes beneath I-10 as depicted in red on the accompanying diagram. This local street will remain closed for approximately three years while crews work on the permanent widening of I-10 over City Park Lake. Northbound and southbound motorists on E. Lakeshore Dr. are advised to use Dalrymple Dr. for the duration of this closure.

This portion of E. Lakeshore Dr. will not be accessible to motorists, pedestrians or bicyclists as this is an active construction site.
