I-10 Widening and Reconstruction Project

Monthly Public Outreach and Communication Report

State Project H.004100

Project Status

Construction continues on drainage operations along the I-10 westbound corridor. Crews are currently working along Baywood Ave. from E. Lakeshore to Elissalde St., installing storm drain pipes and catch basins. This will continue along the project corridor.

Permanent pile driving operations began April 17, 2024, in City Park Lake to construct the bridge piers for the westbound bridge widening. Pile driving will occur Monday through Saturday during daytime hours. This work is anticipated to be completed mid-July, weather permitting. There should not be any significant impact on traffic during this time.

In City Park Lake, work continues on construction of the cofferdam cells, which will support the bridge foundation construction activities. Construction of the permanent retaining walls along I-10 near E. Lakeshore Dr. have begun.

While work is ongoing, residents and motorists throughout the corridor can expect to see an increase in truck traffic, as well as an increase in noise during the day. Upcoming major construction activities will be performed during daytime hours between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and continues to be monitored by various noise and vibration monitors throughout the corridor.

On November 27, 2023, E. Lakeshore Dr. was closed where it passes beneath I-10 as depicted in red on the accompanying diagram. This local street will remain closed for approximately three years while crews work on the permanent widening of I-10 over City Park Lake. Northbound and southbound motorists on E. Lakeshore Dr. are advised to use Dalrymple Dr. for the duration of this closure.

This portion of E. Lakeshore Dr. will not be accessible to motorists, pedestrians or bicyclists as this is an active construction site.

Pile driving operations began in City Park Lake April 17, 2024, on the construction of bridge piers.

Cofferdam cells, which will support the widened bridge foundation, are being constructed within City Park Lake.
