November makes me think of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving makes me think of turkey, and….
Gratitude and Grace.
We’ve been through a lot, you and I. It is easy to dwell on the frustrations, strife, social and political differences, and managing the “urgent” list versus the “important” list. We’re all tired.
Today, the first day of November is a good reset day. 61 days until year end. 61 days until a new calendar starts, and we begin again.
Instead of waiting for updates/change/switches on January 1,
let’s be ready to run on January 1.
Here are some random thoughts for you to consider before the new year is upon us:
- Start your budgeting process now, if your fiscal year is the calendar year
- Include employee appreciation
- Add in technology upgrades, maintenance and other items that have fallen off the important list
- Consider price increases for product and transportation
- Work with your employees to consider what tools/resources they need to more successful
- What can help you do more of YOUR work on your business, instead of working IN your business?
- Find the experts. Listen to the experts! If you have a marketing expert telling you to do “something” but you are doing the opposite, you may be hurting your business. We actually see this happening. You don’t have to do it all! That’s why we are all different, and have different skills. Use your accountant, marketing pro, social media guru, attorney, insurance specialist... the list goes on…. for those details!
- What are your strategic goals for 2022, or through 2025? Find way you can address those goals on a regular basis to stay on track.
- Integrate ways to let employees know they are important to you. What may seem insignificant can go a long way for employee retention. Remember everyone likes to be recognized in different ways. One size does not fit all.
- Look at the skill sets in your office. These past couple of years some professional development has gone to the way side due to covid, lack of staffing, etc. Plan to add some time in to improve skills, and increase productivity.
- I’m going to say it… hold on… take a discernable look at your business hours. Do you need to make changes due to staffing? If I had to guess, about 60% of our businesses need to consider fewer open-to-the-public hours.
- Holidays can be fun, but not for everyone. The upcoming onslaught of holidays, celebrations and get-togethers can be stressful and in some cases triggers for people. Be thoughtful of everyone in your business. Some people may need extra grace, or time off.
- Gratitude board. Hang a board. A white board. Tag Board. Wood Board. Piece of paper. In the office. Everyone can add items for which they are grateful. Step back. Watch it happen.
- Don’t forget YOU. Take care of YOU. We all need YOU.
Let’s reset for a great start to 2022. I have no idea what the year will bring, but let’s be ready to be strong, faster, and more nimble than ever before. I am grateful for all you do in our community. Thank you!

Grant applications are due by December 1, 2021
Since 2013, the Chamber has enjoyed granting money to events held in Hutchinson hosted by nonprofits and for-profits. These grants help cover the expense of marketing that covers a radius outside the Hutchinson area for the event. These events help the Chamber bring more people to our beautiful and welcoming community – there really is #MuchInHutch!
Tell your friends, co-workers, committees, and organizations about the Chamber’s Tourism Marketing Grant. We love to help events as they help us and increase the traffic and awesomeness of Hutchinson!

Qdoba Mexican Eats has been a part of the Hutchinson community since 2016. Mark and Leigh originally moved to Hutchinson in 1999 and opened the Papa Murphy's pizza shop here in 2000, later selling to Joel Meyer in 2017.
The Hutchinson Qdoba location is the third Qdoba restaurant in what eventually grew to nine stores for Mark and Leigh Miller (Left and Middle).
Joey Hofmeister (Right) is the manager of the Hutchinson location and also is the General Manager of the Willmar location. Joey has been with the company for several years and is a big reason for their success. Qdoba was recently chosen as the Favorite Fast Food restaurant by readers of the Hutchinson Leader. As stated from the owners "This is an honor we don't take lightly. We are proud of our restaurant and even more proud of our awesome team!"
