June 2024

Dear HCP4,

The recent destructive windstorm was a stark reminder of the importance of being prepared for disasters. Thanks to the heart, hustle, and higher standards of my Precinct 4 team, we were able to respond within minutes. We immediately began removing fallen trees and clearing debris, even extending our massive cleanup efforts into the City of Houston.

In the days after the storm, our Precinct 4 team opened cooling centers and distributed food, water, and essential supplies to over 10,000 households at our distribution centers. We collaborated with more than a dozen partner organizations—and federal, state, county, and city leaders—to deliver for our residents.

We are dedicated to giving this same effort and more for our communities as we head into hurricane season this June through November, and are here to serve you before, during, and after the storm.

Precinct 4 works year-round to improve and build infrastructure that is resilient in the face of natural disasters. We recently received an extension of federal disaster recovery funds that will support flood mitigation projects and help those still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. We are also providing critical drainage improvements across the Precinct, including at the Addicks and Barker reservoirs, and are enhancing flood resiliency efforts in low-lying neighborhoods.

The next big storm is not a matter of if, but when — and ensuring the safety of all our residents during a major weather event is my and my team’s top priority. Precinct 4’s Road & Bridge team is prepared to remove road hazards, and our Community Assistance Department will work around the clock to address emergency situations and concerns of our residents.

We know how challenging recovering from storms can be for you and your family. Our disaster recovery page has helpful resources for families, business and property owners begin the recovery process.

Precinct 4 is hosting workshops throughout the Precinct to ensure all residents and families have the information and resources they need to act quickly this hurricane season. I invite you and your family to our Meet the Heroes of Hurricane Preparedness event at Bayland Park on June 15 at 9 a.m. to learn important tips from our local first responders on staying safe and prepared during hurricane season. Kids of all ages can also explore our high-water vehicles used for rescues and transport during storms.

Be sure to visit Precinct 4’s website to find helpful information on emergency planning for you and your family, weather resources, and more. Thank you for your trust and continued partnership, and know that Harris County Precinct 4 is here to support you throughout hurricane season.

All my best,

Lesley Briones

Before, During & After

In the wake of destructive wind storms, Precinct 4 emerged as a steadfast force, embodying the true spirit of community. This was reflected through food, water, and ice distributions that helped over 10,000 households, and the activation of multiple cooling centers helped residents without power escape the heat. Additionally, over 150 team members from our Road and Bridge and Parks departments assisted in clearing thousands of cubic yards of debris along our roadways.
