Are You Prepared?
As Hurricane Season begins, we want to remind you that preparedness is key to ensuring your safety and minimizing potential damage to your property. To that extent, Palmetto Bay recently held its yearly Hurricane Preparedness Workshop last Friday, May 20th. This year, we called it Hurricane Happy Hour because it happened on a Friday night AND we enjoyed an array of fabulous appetizers prepared by the Robert Morgan Educational Center's Culinary Arts and Hospitality students, and some delightful cocktails!

Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Forecast Office for Miami and South Florida, Robert Molleda, provided an insightful presentation discussing the trends that have occurred in South Florida over the past 76 years, providing hurricane-based facts, and explaining how hurricane predictions are made each year. Mr. Molleda also underscored the unpredictable nature of severe storms. Using Hurricane Andrew as an example, Mr. Molleda reminded those who experienced the hurricane in 1992 that in less than 72 hours, the storm strengthened from a Category 3 hurricane to a major Category 5 storm!

You can view or download Mr. Molleda's presentation. You can also watch the entire event on our official Facebook page.
