PWRDF accepting donations for Hurricane Beryl response
PWRDF has pledged $5,000 and is accepting donations to aid communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean and Mexico. Beryl caused nine deaths and widespread destruction. The storm's rapid escalation highlights the increasing severity of hurricanes due to climate change. PWRDF will work with the Anglican Alliance to provide immediate relief.

Primate and PWRDF issue joint statement on Gaza Hospital
Recent attacks on Gaza City led to the temporary evacuation of Al Ahli Arab Hospital, overseen by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. Despite the evacuation order, the hospital, vital for providing medical care to those affected by the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel, has reopened. Archbishop Hosam Naoum and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby have called for the protection of the hospital’s humanitarian work. Under international law, hospitals should remain safe zones during conflicts. Support PWRDF’s Gaza and West Bank Emergency Appeal and pray for peace, a ceasefire, and the release of hostages.

Project improves children’s safety and supports women in Ethiopian settlements
Almaz Adane, a mother of five, was forced to flee her home in West Tigray, Ethiopia, due to conflict in November 2020. After a perilous journey, she and her children found safety at the Mai-weyni refugee camp in Mekelle, where Lutheran World Relief (LWF) provided crucial support. From April 2023 to May 2024, PWRDF supported LWF with $100,000 to help families in the camp. This project created child-friendly spaces offering education, psychological support, and organized activities for over 1,200 children. It also empowered caregivers like Adane through financial support and training, enabling her to start a small business and improve her family's livelihood.

Watch our Wild Ride 2024 kick off video! | |
The third annual Wild Ride began on June 20 with a goal of raising $65,000 to celebrate PWRDF's 65 years of supporting displaced families globally. The campaign runs until October 14 (Thanksgiving Day).
It's easy to get involved! Take the 65 for 65 challenge and transform your favourite activity into a fundraiser. Whether it's cycling, baking, walking, or reading, everyone is invited to support our partners working with refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Join the PWRDF community, which already includes nine teams and 26 participants who have raised $7,365 so far.

Through the Anglican Communion and the ACT Alliance, PWRDF engages in the international, ecumenical Season of Creation from September 1 to October 4. In Paul’s letter to the Romans, he compares the Earth to a Mother groaning as in childbirth (Romans 8:22). Francis of Assisi understood this when he referred to the Earth as our sister and our mother in his Canticle of Creatures.
The times we live in show that we are not relating to the Earth as a gift from our Creator, but rather as a resource to be used. And yet, there is hope and the expectation for a better future. To hope in a biblical context does not mean to stand still and quiet, but rather groaning, crying, and actively striving for new life amidst the struggles. Just as in childbirth, we go through a period of intense pain, but new life springs forth.
During September we will be introducing a new educational resource and celebrating the Season of Creation at Praying with PWRDF. Watch this space for more information, or learn about other resources and events at seasonofcreation.org
