Hunter's Creek Middle School Community Brief Thursday, July 25, 2024 (Summer #2)
|
Dear Mark,
There is a lot of excitement here at Hunter's Creek Middle School! We are all eager to begin the 2024-2025 new academic year with our Eagles. All HCMS students will begin school on Monday, August 12th.
Morning student supervision starts at 8:30 AM. Please do not drop off your student before that time. Students are dismissed at 4:04pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and at 2:54 on Wednesdays. For the first two weeks of school, middle school buses will be departing the schools late. I highly encourage the parents to sign up the students in the Boys & Girls Club after school program.
In order to get our students and parents ready for the start of the year, we are sharing with you this special summer edition of The Eagles' View to provide you with important school information and first week of school details. Please pay close attention to all of the information included below.
HCMS teachers and staff have been working tirelessly during the summer common planning days to be completely ready to receive our Eagles. We are grateful to have such dedicated faculty and staff who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty.
HCMS PTSA is always there to support us at any time and all the time! Please consider becoming a member of this amazing organization: https://hunterscreekms.memberhub.com/store
This week the Florida Department of Education released annual school grades for K-12 schools throughout the state. We are extremely pleased to share with the community that Hunter's Creek Middle School earned another 'A' grade for the year! This is something that our entire school community should be very proud of as it reflects upon all the efforts made by our Eagle students, their amazing teachers, our dedicated support staff, so many education-oriented parents, our devoted volunteers including PTSA & SAC members, and our most charitable partners in education. Congratulations Eagles! Congratulations Hunter's Creek community!!

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Bring Your Own Device
| |
|
All students will receive an OCPS Student Device at the beginning of the school year. Students are responsible for use and storage of school issued devices, and fines will be assessed for any damages to OCPS devices.
OCPS is pleased to provide devices for all students. However, the district acknowledges the parents’ right to refuse the use of a district provided take home device in grades 3-12. As a result, OCPS Board Policy on Digital Learning allows for the Bring Your Own Device option in schools. For Bring Your Own Device, a "device" is a privately-owned laptop, notebook, or tablet computing device that meets district specifications. More information can be found at: https://www.ocps.net/cms/One.aspx?portalId=54703&pageId=88548.
We ask that students who opt for Bring Your Own Device come to school to have their device checked for connectivity with the OCPS Network by the school’s Technology Support Representative, Mr. Delgado.

Physical Education (PE) Program
The Physical Education program provides each student with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program consisting of skill development, lead up games, team sports, and physical fitness activities. The students receive instruction in rules, skills, and strategies associated with the different sports as well as learning experiences involving physical conditioning activities. The students will also have opportunities to become involved in life-long physical activities through individual sport units. The program promotes the spirit of cooperation, leadership, fair play, and friendly competition.
* All students take PE as an elective unless a PE waiver has been completed and approved by the student's counselor. If this applies to your child, please email the PE waiver to their counselor in the Guidance Office.

There is a new system for registering for a school bus. To register, you will need to go onto Skyward and complete the School Bus Rider Registration form that has been added to the Skyward forms module.
In the past, the District encouraged parents to transport their non-eligible bus rider, if they could, to afford a seat for a student who needs bus transportation. Identifying students who will ride the bus allows Transportation Services to create more efficient routes versus routing for all eligible riders.
Please complete the School Bus Registration form if you expect a bus seat to be available for their child!
The School Bus Rider Registration form is available to parents, schools, and Student Enrollment staff by accessing the Skyward portal. If you are having trouble accessing Skyward for your student, please email hunterscreek_ms@ocps.net with as much information about the problem you are having as possible (screenshots are helpful).
OCPS Transportation information can be found at https://www.ocps.net/departments/transportation_services if you have any further questions about buses.

All students will receive free school lunch this year!
|
This year ALL students will be able to receive ALL school meals at NO CHARGE. (This does not include a la carte items, like cookies and chips.)
OCPS believes every student deserves access to healthy and nutritious meals regardless of socioeconomic status. Implementing no cost meals for all students at all existing OCPS schools is a significant step towards achieving this goal. By eliminating the need for applications and eligibility determination, we can streamline the process and ensure that every student has the opportunity to enjoy nutritious meals during the school day.
This new initiative will enhance our students' well-being and academic performance and reduce the stigma associated with receiving free or reduced-price meals. It promotes an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can focus on their education without hunger being a barrier.
