Our Week in Review.
Blue skies, sunshine and warm temperatures. A perfect day for a festival? No, a perfect day to feed over 2,000 families. But I was totally unprepared for the emotion-packed experience of participating in the first “Feeding Collin County” event.
When I started Minnie's Food Pantry I could never have imagined that in our amazing city/county there would be such a need to provide meals to families. I can't explain to you how difficult it's been for me to paint the picture so you can understand what your support has meant to the families that we serve and to our staff and Board of Directors.
On March 15th when Covid-19 hit, my staff and I made the decision to remain open and continue to serve the community. We immediately went into a seven day work week. That was one of the best but most difficult decisions we have ever made. Our team has gone from feeding 5,000 people per month to over 33,000 people in July alone! We've looked into the eyes of people who just need hope and we've done our best to show them we care. The mask we wear doesn't allow them see our smile, however, sometimes we've shed a tear or two with them as we hear their stories and feel their pain..
I lead our mission daily with gratitude as I remember the time when it was my family in need and now because of your support I have seen our brand on NBC, ABC, CNN and other media outlets as we shine the light on what the face of hunger looks like today. It's different today then it was in 2019. The holiday season should be a time of hope and happiness but it’s tough to have hope when you and your kids are facing hunger. Thank you for continuing to donate to Minnie's Food Pantry, together we feed thousands every week and that number will increase as the holidays approach us.
In the upcoming weeks, please follow us on Facebook as we share powerful stories, experiences and photos of why people feed the hungry and what it means to the people we serve. I'd love to here from you personally, What is your story about hunger? Click here to share your personal story.
