Hunger at Home and DoorDash recently celebrated a major milestone, completing an estimated 70,000 meals powered by DoorDash's Project DASH. With funding from the City of San Jose, the program delivers food right to the front doors of individuals and families struggling with food insecurity in San Jose. Nutritious prepared meals and groceries are dropped off four times a week by a Dasher delivery driver. The program ensures no one in our community goes hungry, including those who are homebound or cannot participate in drive-through food distribution programs.
The milestone was marked with a celebration at PayPal Park. Representatives from Hunger at Home, DoorDash, the City of San Jose, and San Jose Earthquakes were on hand for the celebration. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan spoke about the impact of the innovative partnership on combating hunger at the local level. The Mayor and former Earthquake’s soccer player, Shea Salinas loaded the 70,000th meal in the car of the Dasher driver in celebration of reaching this major milestone.
"At Hunger at Home, we are incredibly grateful to broaden food access alongside our partner DoorDash," said Ewell Sterner, Chief Executive Officer, Hunger at Home. "By leveraging Project DASH, we are able to provide meals to seniors and individuals with disabilities who are facing food insecurity, and families whose work or childcare obligations prevent them from coming to our weekly drive-through distribution. We are grateful for the City of San Jose’s financial support and are also calling on the community to support our ongoing efforts.”
