Greetings, Lions Family!

We are a third of the way into the new year, and it feels like time is flying. March brings some exciting times (SPRING BREAK) for our staff & scholars, and it also means hard work is ahead, STAAR is on our heels.

Tea anyone? We will have our first High Noon Tea Party on March 2nd, at the Northshore campus, starting at 12 Noon. The event is hosted by retired RSPA Nurse Aide, Jaqueline Perry. Please see the attached flier below for full details.

STAAR ACADEMIC NIGHT will be held on March 19th from 5:30-7:00 PM in the Humble cafeteria. We invite all parents and scholars to come and visit our academic tables and participate in fun-filled games and activities. We will have an information session for the upcoming school year, and our Fine Arts department will be here as well to show off some of our talented RSPA Lions!!!

It’s Rodeo Time!!! Our 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade scholars will attend the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show on March 6th. Parents, please make sure your scholars are dressed in the appropriate attire, and if you would like to volunteer, please let your scholar’s teacher know.

Mind Trekkers field experience is for 5th and 8th Science classes only. They will travel to San Jacinto College on March 7th, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, to experience a plethora of STEAM activities through the branch of science.

District STEAM Day is March 8th for all of our scholars. It will be held at the Humble campus. Northshore scholars will travel from 8:00 to 10:30 AM to visit the STEAM stations, and Humble will visit from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon.

As we get closer to STAAR, we will begin preparing our scholars for the test, and one of the ways we do that is by giving our 3rd-8th grade scholars a practice STAAR test, aka Mock STAAR Test. We will administer the first mock test in ELAR (English, Language Arts & Reading) on March 26th. Please make sure your scholar gets a good night's rest, arrives on time, and eats a good breakfast.

Parents, mandatory tutorials are underway. Please make sure that your scholar is staying every week on their assigned day or days. All scholars, PK-8th grade, who have academic needs were invited. If you are interested in tutorials for your scholar, please let their teacher know.

Parents, remember we are shooting for 98% attendance EVERY DAY!! Please bring your scholars to school on time and let them remain there all day. They miss out on valuable learning opportunities when they aren’t in class.

Remeber, my door is always open. Please stop by and say Hello!

Every Child, Every Day, 100% of the Time!!

Visit the Counselor's Corner

Dear Parents,

As we grow closer toward the end of the year, it’s vitally important that you keep your scholars motivated to achieve their goals. Make sure you are conversing with them about their overall mental well-being, as anxiety tends to creep in during this time of year. Encourage your scholar to talk to you about their feelings instead of harboring them.

If your scholar experiences stressors, there is a technique you can show them to get through it. Simply visit the Counselor’s Corner for informative techniques that can be done anywhere to calm anxiety and stress.

When it comes to their academics, make sure to work closely with their teachers to get an understanding of the objectives that your scholar may be struggling with & a plan to help them overcome it, i.e., private and/or school tutorials, etc.

Don't forget to join me for the next installment of Coffee with the Counselor on March 6th!

March Tips for Maintaining a Spring Garden

If you have a plant with leaves turning brown, take half a teaspoon of baking soda or sugar, one cup of water mixed, and pour it into the plant. You should notice a difference within a week.

If you have a really full plant, the chances are the plant is root-bound. Remove the plant from its pot and cut half of the root ball off. Divide the plant into four equal parts, loosening the roots along the way. Now, instead of one plant, you will have four. You will put it in soil (fresh, loose soil that has a good pH). Water it once every four days, and you’ll have four healthy plants.
