Greetings, Lions Family!
WOW, it’s Fabulous February! What an exciting time to be a Humble Lion!!
Our Lions and Lady Lions are both in the playoffs for basketball. Let's give them a “BIG LIONS ROAR” as they continue to compete for the championship. The Dazzling Dolls and Humble Cheerleaders performed at the Houston Rockets half-time show and did an AMAZING job. Way to go, ladies! We also celebrated 100 days of school and MLK Day last month.
February is also the month that we get to celebrate Black History. We will acknowledge African Americans from our past and in the present daily during the morning announcements, scholars will engage in activities in their classroom, and we will have our annual Black History Program. The program is on February 29th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. More details will be sent from your scholar's teacher.
Friendship is in the air! PK-2nd grade scholars will have friendship parties on Wednesday, February 14th, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Although our 3rd-5th graders won’t have a party, they will enjoy a card/gift exchange. The time is at the teacher’s discretion.
We are continuing with field experiences for all grade levels. We have some great learning experiences ahead for your scholar. Parents, please ensure your scholar dresses according to the weather; however, they must remain in RSPA’s dress code. The field experience attire is jeans (no rips/holes), an RSPA t-shirt, and tennis shoes (no Crocs, sandals, etc.).
Mandatory tutorials for all grades (PK-8th)begin this month. Letters were sent home last month informing you of the required tutorial dates for your scholar. Tutorials are from 4:00p-5:00p, Monday-Thursday; however, you should follow the dates your scholar’s teachers sent home. If your scholar is currently in the 21st Century Program, they will go there after tutoring. Pick-up time is at 5:00 PM as there is no bus transportation at this time. Parents, please make sure your child is in attendance. Tutorials are structured to work with small groups and close learning gaps. Scholars who do not follow expectations during tutorials will be removed.
Scholars who are at risk of failing for the year, either due to academics or attendance, received an intent to attend Summer school letter. Parent conferences will also be scheduled to discuss your scholar's needs further.
Parents, please remember that our daily attendance goal is 98% is Great!! We are still not seeing the scholars in attendance as they should be, so we are not reaching our attendance goals. Attendance is taken daily at 9:45 AM. Please ensure that your child(ren) arrives at school before 9:45 AM, and if they have to go to an appointment, try to schedule them after 9:45 AM. If they must miss a day, please send them with a note. We are shooting for some 100% days. Watch your Remind 101 text messages for those days.
We are a PBL (project-based learning) and STEAM district, and with that comes enhanced instruction and cross-curricular assignments and projects. Our scholars will complete one to two projects per nine weeks. Please ensure that your scholar completes their projects and turns them in on time. They are major grades, which are 50% to 60% of their overall grade.
The Parent Resource Room is up and running. Parents, if you need assistance with computer use, printing, family resources, etc., please come to the campus. We have a space for you to take care of your needs.
My door is always open. Please stop by and say Hello!
Every Child, Every Day, 100% of the Time!!
