April 2023

Dear RSPA Humble Families,

It is officially spring here at RSPA!

It has been great getting back into the swing of school after Spring Break, and we look forward to finishing the last months of school strong. We are diligently preparing for our state assessments that will begin later this month.

What can you do to help your student do their best? Keep these ideas in mind:

  • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Eating a healthy breakfast
  • Giving encouragement
  • Making sure your student arrives at school on time

Together we can ensure that truly the best and brightest students attend RSPA!

As always, please don't hesitate to contact us in the front office should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Monet Calhoun, M.A.

Humble Campus Principal

Dear Parents,

Our focus for the month of April is Kindness. We will continue to develop our social skills so that our students will have a great school ending. This month is also a time for testing which also can create some testing anxiety with some students. I am providing some tips that can help our kids handle any anxiety associated with testing. If your child needs additional help, I am available.

Often, the process of saying their worries out loud helps young children work through their feelings. Understanding the thought patterns that trigger anxiety can help parents develop strategies to target specific concerns; try asking these questions:

* How do you feel when you first see the test?

*What's your biggest worry about taking a test?

*Do you feel worried when you think about a test or only when you see the test?

When your child leaves home in the morning, try leaving them with a positive affirmation such as "You're smart and beautiful," "You're STRONG,” or "You can DO It," We want our kids to be SUCCESSFUL.

Thank you, Port City Chapter of The Links, Inc. & Constellation Energy, for serving as RSPA’s District STEM Day volunteers!

A special shout-out goes to Mrs. Bennett-Edwards for also getting a donation for the Humble and Northshore campuses of coding materials. Our scholars are better off due to the efforts of our STEM partners, more importantly, our NASA partnership. Keep up the good efforts, Mrs. Bennett-Edwards!

PARENT SAFETY TRAINING PRESENTATION

Parent Pick-Up & Drop-Off Times:

Morning drop-off time begins at 7:15a, and early pick-up ends at 2:40p daily. If your child is tardy during morning arrival, you must park, come into the front office, and sign your child in. After 2:40p, parents are not permitted to enter the building, and students must leave during the regular dismissal time. If you need early drop-off or late pick-up, Crayon Club (6:00a-6:00p) is available for a fee. Thank you for your strict adherence to this policy.

Dismissal Safety:

1. Please remain in your car at all times.

2. If you have multiple scholars, please pick up your scholars at the pick-up spot for the oldest sibling or the person they are riding home with.

3. Children will not be permitted to cross the street to enter your car during dismissal. Please help us keep your children safe by working with us regarding this.

Transportation Change:

Any mode of transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 2:00 pm. Please do not communicate any changes to your child's teachers. Additionally, Pre-K scholars are not permitted to ride the bus unless they have an older sibling riding with them.

Attendance:

Please make sure that your child attends school daily. It is imperative to their academic success and growth in school. Just as a reminder: students who miss 10 or more school days may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws. Also, 3 tardies are equivalent to one absence.
