Humanity First USA brings clean and safe drinking water to over 100 towns and villages this year

The Humanity First USA Water for Life team has had an incredibly busy year thanks to the supporters of this program. After we completed over 100 well and hand pump projects in Mali, Burkina Faso, Liberia, and Tanzania, tens of thousands of people now have clean and safe water close to their homes.

Local HF teams in each country receive requests from the leaders of towns and villages for help. The team works with local mayors to learn the technical needs of each site, vet the requests against available resources, and rotate our projects across the regions of the country. In Mali and Burkina Faso, the villages’ most pressing need was to refurbish and rehabilitate existing hand pumps which were broken - in some cases for years. During this process, HF teams clean up the existing borehole to reach clean water and replace all old equipment with new hand pumps and accessories. In Liberia and Tanzania, our teams installed new hand pumps over newly hand-dug wells for clean drinking water.

In Tarakoro Mali, this hand pump, supported by the Seattle Nasiraat, replaces a pump that was broken since 2020, while the next nearest hand pump was 1 kilometer away. Now, this town of 10,000 people has a close source of clean water.

In Pabré Centre Burkina Faso, we refurbished this hand pump at a primary school. The students and villagers were without a working pump for over a year. The next closest pump is 6 kilometers away!

A new well and pump supported by Farida Sheikh in Budalabujiga Tanzania was inaugurated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and prayer by local leaders.

A new well and pump in Liberia brings clean water to a village in Beaden, in the northern part of the country.

For the rest of this year and into our 20th Anniversary year 2024, we will continue to install pumps so that all citizens of the villages can access clean and safe water without walking long distances.

We also seek to expand our work on more substantial projects. Solar-powered water pumps can pump water into overhead reservoirs and pipe systems. These systems deliver much needed water directly to students at schools, patients in health facilities, and families in their homes. If you can support or fundraise for a larger project, please email us!
