Surgical Training Mission to Ghana

The surgical training mission team traveled and trained across two cities in Ghana at the First American Medical Center and the Medical Simulation Skills Institute.

The team led surgeons, operating room staff, and general hospital staff through training in surgical techniques and CPR.

A participant practices ultrasound techniques with Dr. Tarek Youssef.

Three men tinker with a device that looks like a thick flat screen propped up at a 45 degree angle with holes in it through which thin instruments are inserted.

The team readies the surgical training devices for the session.

A woman in grey medical scrubs kneels on the floor beside a young girl of about five years old. The girl looks up at her while her hands rest on the chest of a baby sized dummy used for CPR training.

Even some young visitors got to learn from the team.

Not only did the team complete several days of training, but they also presented a donation from Humanity First USA of butterfly Ultrasound probes, operating room supplies, oxygen generator & nebulizer, and medical disposables for local patient medical care.

They also toured the Daboase Ahmadiyya Hospital and gave Humanity First USA’s donation of funds to procure another incubator.

Thank you to the volunteer team for their skilled service and thank you to HF Ghana for hosting and facilitating this service mission.

Gift of Health Student Mission to Mexico

The Gift of Health mission led by the Loyola University Humanity First Student Organization treated 385 people in southern Mexico.

The students and volunteer doctors evaluated patients for general health, dental health, and chronic conditions like diabetes.

The mission was able to give patients months worth of needed medications.

Student leader Elham Malik reflected on the mission

I was deeply moved by how the Gift of Health program allowed us to witness firsthand the profound impact of socioeconomic factors on community health. Seeing families rely on soda because it's cheaper than water really opened my eyes to the complex challenges these communities face. It was incredibly rewarding to spend quality time with patients who hadn't seen a doctor in years, truly listening to their stories. This experience has reinforced for me the critical importance of culturally relevant care and how understanding the full context of our patients' lives can transform the way we approach healthcare.

Thank you to HF Mexico and local team members for their partnership to host the mission. Thank you to the volunteer doctors who led patient care and especially to the students for powering and giving this Gift of Health!
