Does IDOT have plans to widen 60/83 in Mundelein within the next couple of years?

I received a call from David Stolman, Lake County Treasurer this morning telling me the property tax bills are online.  Click here

Does IDOT have plans to widen 60/83 in Mundelein within the next couple of years?

IDOT Response

The Department's FY 2015-2020 Proposed Multi-Modal Transportation Plan does not include any funding to widen Illinois 60/83 within the village of Mundelein. However, we have initiated a Phase I engineering study for design, location and environmental studies on Illinois 60/83 from Illinois 176 to the CN Railroad. This ongoing study will determine the proposed scope of work for this section of Illinois 60/83, however, it is anticipated that the study will conclude that additional capacity is warranted.

The Department's Adjusted FY 2015 program includes $88,000 for the continuation of Phase I Engineering. We have learned that additional environmental studies are required; therefore, we anticipate it will take another year before the current Phase I study is complete. Design Approval is currently expected by February 28, 2016. The next step will be to initiate Phase II Engineering for Contract Plans. Funding for the remaining elements of the project is not currently included in the Department's multi-year program; however, these improvements will be considered for inclusion in the Department's priorities for funding consideration as part of future programs.

The remaining unfunded elements of this project are estimated to cost $119,053,000; and, are listed as follows:

Construction (Additional Lanes and a RR Grade Separation)         $90,000,000

Construction Engineering                                                                             11,700,000

Land Acquisition                                                                                                  5,303,000

Phase II Engineering (Contract Plans)                                                         9,000,000

Utility Adjustments                                                                                            2,200,000

RR Agreements                                                                                                       850,000

Real Questions from Real People

I realize we are in construction season and should expect some delays but is there anything you can do to correct the timing of the stop light at Gilmer & Midlothian?  The issue is SE in the am and NW in the pm.

This morning I was stopped from 6:52 until 7:08 to get thru the light. That is crazy for one light.  Same issue last night at 5:30 pm.  Took between 15 - 20 minutes for the light.

Response from Lake County Dept of Transportation

Due to construction activities along many routes in Lake County including

-          US 12  from Ela to Lake Cook Rd

-          IL 21 from Libertyville to Lake Cook Rd

-          IL 137 from Butterfield to O'Plaine

-          IL 176 from US 12 to Gilmer

-          Peterson Rd from IL 83 to US 45

traffic is rerouting to various alternate routes including Gilmer Rd, Midlothian Rd, Old McHenry Rd, Butterfield Rd, US 45, IL 60, and IL 83.

With the additional traffic on these roadways, traffic is experiencing increased delays at many intersections.

The traffic signal at Gilmer Rd and Midlothian Rd is owned and maintained by the Illinois Department of Transportation.  They have asked that questions regarding the operation of their traffic signals be submitted to the following website,

Consider sharing your native plants
We are looking for donations of native flowering plants for the Fremont Township Community Garden.  Our  garden would like to do its part to support the native pollinators that are an integral part of our food web.  Native plants provide food and shelter for these insects, while  helping produce food for us.  If you have extra native plants, such as echinacea, yellow coneflower, bergamot, boneset, blazing star, compass flower, little bluestem or prairie dropseed, please consider sharing with our community garden!  Contact Alicia at adodd67@comcast.nettto coordinate drop-off.

LMCA members will enjoy a spring ride to neighboring Lake Forest, where they will tour the residential gardens and design offices of landscape designer Craig Bergmann. Originally planned to complement the entry building complex of A. Watson's Armour's 1917 Elena country estate, this architectural redesign of the grounds includes formal borders, a shade garden, an orchard, a swimming pool garden, and a motor court. From there we will proceed to the beautifully restored farm buildings at Elena Farm designed by architects David Adler and Alfred Hopkins, featuring a tour and historical presentation and updating us on the modern use of this unique property. Your day will be topped off with lunch at Froggy's in Highwood.

Would you like to donate items to our food pantry?
We have seen an uptick in users in our food pantry. We are especially in need of peanut butter, grape jelly, instant mashed potatoes and canned fruit.  We also appreciate cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, soap etc.
Recycle Sheets, Blankets, Towels and Shoes
If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Rt 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters and Rescues.  Please drop them in the bin on the front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.

We also accept eye glasses and shoes to be recycled year round.  If you are disposing of shoes that have laces, please tie the laces together.
