Women and Girls Fund awards $145,000 in grants

The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County (WGF) has awarded $145,000 to 14 area nonprofit organizations to support programs that promote the health and well-being, self-sufficiency and empowerment of women and girls of all ages. With the presentation of its 2023 grants, the WGF has given just over $1.6 million to nearly 100 nonprofit organizations serving Waukesha County women and girls since its inception 19 years ago.


Grants for 2023 were awarded to:


Aurora Medical Center – Summit: $10,000

This grant will support the development of trauma-informed services for sexual assault survivors at Aurora Medical Center in Summit.


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee: $10,000

This grant will allow about 60 Waukesha County girls in single-mother households to participate in a one-to-one mentoring program.


Blessings in a Backpack – Waukesha County: $10,000

Funds from this grant will be used to purchase food items to provide weekend nutrition for students at 33 schools in five Waukesha County school districts who may otherwise go hungry.


Chosen, Inc.: $1,500

Chosen will use this grant to support the Family Closet providing supplies, clothing, and personal care items for foster families with children in their care.


Family Promise of Waukesha County, Inc.: $10,000

Family Promise will use this grant to support From Shelter to Housing, a program for single women and their children to transition from homelessness to permanent housing.


Friends with FOOD (SE WI Emergency Support Group): $20,000

Funds will be used to purchase an electric fully-powered stacker pallet lift to accept food donations as well as purchase food and supplies.


Good Friend: $7,000

A leader in autism education, Good Friend will receive funds to support a pilot outreach program with the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin SE.


Hebron Housing Services: $17,000

This grant will support Juno House’s operating costs. Juno House is a special place for women and families experiencing homelessness, open 24 hours

a day, 365 days a year.

 

Katy’s Kloset: $10,000

This grant will supply medical equipment and supplies at no cost for women and girls in Waukesha County.


Literacy Services of Wisconsin: $10,000

These funds will support the Pathways to Progress for Waukesha Women Program and purchase student supplies, marketing materials and fund outreach and instruction.


NAMI Southeast Wisconsin: $17,000

NAMI will use this grant to support the direct expenses of the Silence Mental Health Program in Schools including speaker training, speaker presentation stipends, crisis resource cards, and informational materials.


Parents Place, Inc.: $10,000

Parents Place will use this grant to support supervised visitation services and strengthen families.


Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE): $2,500

MSOE will use funds from this grant for the Strang STEAM Summer Camp, to cover expenses such as laboratory and classroom supplies, t-shirts and backpacks to provide middle school students with learning resources, self-confidence, and cognitive awareness.


Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC): $10,000

This grant will be used to advance and increase women’s financial wellness and business ownership in Waukesha County through outreach, training, and one-on-one business technical assistance.

The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County, established in 2004 to improve the quality of life for women and girls in Waukesha County. Since 2005, the Women and Girls Fund has awarded more than $1.6 million to nonprofit organizations that promote the health and well-being, self-sufficiency and empowerment of women and girls of all ages.
