$590+ Million Invested In the Greater Bay Area Region
As we honor Black History Month, at Housing Trust we recognize that it has been historically difficult for developers who are Black or Brown to access capital. We are committed to changing this. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we know that supporting developers from diverse backgrounds is transformative work—and will have a ripple effect on the communities that they serve. Please see the Just Funded section to read about one such developer, Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation (BCZ). They are the co-developer of Residences at Liberation Park.
We are excited to share our latest impact numbers! Since Housing Trust first began in 2000, we cumulatively invested $590 million in affordable housing, resulting in the creation of more than 26,000 affordable housing opportunities, helping 50,000+ neighbors. Also, we leveraged more than $7.8 billion across the 14-county greater Bay Area region, including Sacramento.
On top of that, we recently funded two new projects, one in Santa Rosa and one in Oakland AND celebrated groundbreakings in Mountain View and Elk Grove, as well as a grand opening in San Rafael. When we say that we and our partners help our underserved community in the greater Bay Area and beyond, we really mean it!

In this issue, we're highlighting two of our board members, Ahmad Thomas and Jonathan Fearn. | |

A BIG THANK YOU to board member Jonathan Fearn, Head of Development at Oak Impact Group, who recently spoke to our HT staff for a DEI Fireside Chat!
Part of our DEI initiative and commitment to being inclusive, our Fireside Chats are small get togethers between staff and board members that allow us space to dialogue and get to know more about our board member's background, including why they chose to dedicate themselves to affordable housing.

“I am thankful for the things that most people take for granted: being able to lock my door, having a mailbox, and being able to cook in my own kitchen,” shared Kimberly. “It feels so good to have my own home.”

The city of Mountain View was recently recognized as a Prohousing community.
On January 31, Governor Gavin Newsom announced seven more Prohousing cities, bringing the total to 37 so far. In the greater Bay Area, the new cities recognized include Mountain View, Petaluma, and Healdsburg. Cities earned the Prohousing designation because they demonstrated that they cut red tape and speed up housing approvals. The Prohousing designation rewards communities that are willing to reduce barriers to construction, lower costs, and create overall housing policies aligned with state goals. Learn more.
