SAPHE 2.0 Bill Update from MA Public Health Association

The recent 11.27 article by The Boston Globe sheds light on the ongoing struggles of the state’s fractured local public health system and our efforts to build the 21st-century system that Massachusetts desperately needs and our residents deserve. This summer WMPHA members testified in support (see photo) and submitted letters. Once again, the SAPHE 2.0 Act is almost at the finish line. You can help us get SAPHE 2.0 passed by sharing the Globe article with your legislators:

Please help build the next generation of local public health professionals!

A message from Rupak Bhatt, Operations Manager from the Academic Public Health Corps: We have improved our recruiting to bring on more students from Western Massachusetts, and I'd love to see increased engagement and collaboration with health departments as well! Our Corps members have experience in areas such as:

  • Health communications (social media, infographics, website content)
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Translation services
  • Community Engagement and health equity research, and policy recommendation
  • Administrative support including LBOH meeting minutes, Digital file organization, Background research and planning

Partnering with the APHC is easy:

  • Submit a project request form
  • Have a 30-minute intake call to align on goals, timeline, deliverables
  • Provide any clarifying information regarding requested project
  • Complete a brief evaluation of the experience

We handle all Corps member supervision, so you can focus on communicating needs and providing some comments on near-final drafts without heavy involvement in managing interns.

If folks have any questions or concerns before filling out the request form, I am open to people signing up for a time on my calendar, or sending me an email to find a time that works to chat more.

I look forward to finding more ways for us to collaborate, grow the workforce, and advance local public health together.
