Horne's Member Spotlight May 12, 2024 The Campbell Family Chase, Kelly, JP, Parker & Liam

Chase & Kelly Campbell have been members at Horne Memorial UMC since 2017. They have been a big part of our church since joining and we have welcomed their three adorable boys into our church family along the way. Chase & Kelly are proud parents to JP (age 8), Parker (age 7) and Liam (age 5). The older boys attend North Raleigh Christian Academy, while Liam attends preschool here at Horne.

Chase is a native of Shelby, NC and Kelly grew up in Mt. Olive. The Campbells currently reside in the Ole Mill Stream neighborhood. They both are proud alumni of UNC-Chapel Hill…Go Tar Heels! Chase is a physician with UNC Johnston Health and while Kelly is a pharmacist by training, she currently is enjoying her role as the lead in the Campbell family management!

As a family, they spend lots of time outdoors. Running, fishing, critter-catching, gardening, playing baseball and soccer, riding bikes, and anything that keeps them busy is best for their energetic family!

They also enjoy cheering for the Tar Heels and try to watch as much basketball as possible!

You can find them at the 9am traditional service and the three boys are regular participants in all areas of Children’s Ministry. Chase & Kelly also enjoy serving with the Children’s Ministry & on the Preschool Board. Their favorite Bible verses are a tie between Ephesians 4:32,Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” And Micah 6:8, “The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

The Campbell Family continues to be a blessing to Horne Memorial each & every week and we are grateful that we get to call them part of our church family!

Welcoming Wellness

White Plains UMC in Cary is launching a new mental health initiative called Welcoming Wellness…Empowering Mental Health. This program is led by Keith and Robin Stirewalt, former members of Horne. The initiative aims to support caregivers, parents, grandparents, friends, and allies of adolescents and adults experiencing mental health issues. The program will feature monthly presentations by mental health professionals covering all aspects of the challenging journey from mental illness to mental wellness. These presentations will be available both in-person and online, as a zoom webinar or on-demand on the website.

To sign up for the newsletter and receive a zoom link, please visit WelcomingWellnessNC.com. The first presentation is scheduled for May 19. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the program lead, Robin Stirewalt.

Youth Sunday School

We have gratitude, plans, and an opportunity!

First, we are deeply grateful to Chris Brooks for his leadership with our youth on Sunday mornings this year. Chris has just begun a study on the letter of James and will lead our class through the end of May. He has found creative programs and has been faithful in being there to lead our youth. With his many responsibilities with our UMM and his work with our Sunday morning and weekday media, he needs to let go of his Sunday morning class leadership.

In that vein, we are delighted to share that several volunteers have stepped forward into his shoes (note that it takes several volunteers to fill those shoes!) and lead Sunday Morning Youth! We will use a variety of resources to learn, grow and have a great time! Our class WILL meet through the summer months, so please come at 10:00 on Sunday mornings to room 217! There may even be food from time to time....

And finally, we have 4 volunteer leaders thus far and would love to have 6 or 8! If you are willing to step into a rotation, please be in touch with Kim Lamb! The curriculum will be provided along with support in implementing it!

ONE Churchwide Worship Celebration Sunday, June 30 at 10am

VBS Student Registration will begin May 15th!

Volunteers Needed! We need everyone who is able to help during the week of VBS to sign up as a volunteer. We must have enough adult helpers for VBS to be a success. We will have opportunities for those that cannot help during the week to help with preparation and donations, but our biggest need is for people who can commit to being there from 8:45 to 12:15 Monday-Thursday June 24th-27th. Please prayerfully consider how you can put your talents to use to help our children.

Children’s Sunday School Ages 3 years-5th graders Leaders Needed Now!

The lesson is prepared for you and all the materials you need are supplied. All you need to do is read through the lesson (provided mid-week via email), ask any questions that you may have, and show up on Sunday morning. We need two leaders for each of our classes each week. The curriculum that we are using focuses on uncovering the Heart of God and how we can be more like Him. Each lesson utilizes an interactive story-telling approach and a craft to take home. There are sometimes games or activities to reinforce the idea we are focusing on that week. I have to warn you, though; you better prepare your heart to be captured by these kids!!

Sign up Here to Volunteer! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Class leader: Kim Lamb

Does your faith make room for questions? Everyone has doubts. Where is God when bad things happen? Does God hear our prayers? Is there a heaven? Often, we treat such questions as the enemy of faith. But uncertainty doesn’t mean our belief is lacking. Doubt can be a path to a deeper, richer encounter with God. Whether you’re a longtime Christian or someone brand new to faith, this study will lead you to a trust in God that gives you the courage to ask tough questions. Though you may wrestle with doubt, you’ll discover a faith that includes belief and trust, as well as uncertainty and mystery.
