Horne's Member Spotlight
Wil, Stephanie & Katie Bass
Wil & Stephanie Bass have been members at Horne Memorial UMC for 14 years. You can find them at the 11:00 contemporary service most Sundays. They are also parents to their beautiful daughter, Katie, who is 17 years old. Katie is graduating this year from Smithfield Selma Senior High’s IB program, and she plans to attend NC State’s College of Engineering in the fall.
Wil is a native of Holden Beach, NC, while Stephanie is from Lumberton. The Bass family currently reside in the Glen Laurel neighborhood. Wil is a graduate of Campbell University, and he is the Principal Cyber Security Engineer with Truist. Stephanie graduated from Northeastern University in Boston and currently is a Senior Financial Advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors.
As a family, they love exploring the world - both inside and out of the US - especially at National Parks. They also really enjoy boating and getting to the beach as much as possible.
Katie has been an active member of our youth group and enjoys going on the mission trips each year. Stephanie is currently serving as the Co-Lead for the Welcoming Team and has been a long-time member of the Sarah Circle. Wil and Stephanie are also a part of the new Open for Discussion Sunday School class.
A favorite verse within their family is:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinner Hosts
Horne Memorial is a church that places a strong emphasis on fostering connections within families and friends. Every Wednesday evening during the school year, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, we provide a warm and inviting setting for individuals to come together over a meal before engaging in various activities.
Whether you are coming from work or school, this midweek gathering offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy a meal with loved ones, participate in a Bible Study, or get involved in volunteering with our youth or children's programs.
If you are interested in hosting a meal during the months of September to May, please reach out to Sarah to check for availability. Our Fellowship Hall will be set up and ready with all the necessary dinner supplies and tables, and we'll even have refreshing lemonade prepared for you. To make this initiative a success, we are looking for individuals or teams to sign up and take on the responsibility of preparing or purchasing food for the meal. We can even help provide volunteers to help with serving and cleanup if needed. It's important to note that this is not a fundraising event; however, we do collect a love offering to help cover your expenses.
With 23 slots available for the fall, winter, and spring seasons, we encourage you to join us in creating a welcoming and fulfilling experience for our community.

Children’s Sunday School Ages 3 years-5th graders Leaders Needed Now!
The lesson is prepared for you and all the materials you need are supplied. All you need to do is read through the lesson (provided mid-week via email), ask any questions that you may have, and show up on Sunday morning. We need two leaders for each of our classes each week. The curriculum that we are using focuses on uncovering the Heart of God and how we can be more like Him. Each lesson utilizes an interactive story-telling approach and a craft to take home. There are sometimes games or activities to reinforce the idea we are focusing on that week. I have to warn you, though; you better prepare your heart to be captured by these kids!!
Sign up Here to Volunteer! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Dropping off Children
Children 3 years old through 5th grade are invited to join a Sunday School class each Sunday from 10:00-10:45. We gather in the basement (ground floor) by the inside tunnel entrance at 9:55am. They will be picked up at 10:45 from the ground floor classrooms B9 (K-2nd), B7 (preschool age), B6 (3rd-5th).
Youth Sunday School
Grades: 6th -12th
Youth are invited to join us for Sunday School on the 2nd floor in room 217 each Sunday at 10am. The last classroom at the end of the hall. We hope to see you there!
We have gratitude, plans, and an opportunity!
First, we are deeply grateful to Chris Brooks for his leadership with our youth on Sunday mornings this year. Chris has just begun a study on the letter of James and will lead our class through the end of May. He has found creative programs and has been faithful in being there to lead our youth. With his many responsibilities with our UMM and his work with our Sunday morning and weekday media, he needs to let go of his Sunday morning class leadership.
In that vein, we are delighted to share that several volunteers have stepped forward into his shoes (note that it takes several volunteers to fill those shoes!) and lead Sunday Morning Youth! We will use a variety of resources to learn, grow and have a great time! Our class WILL meet through the summer months, so please come at 10:00 on Sunday mornings to room 217! There may even be food from time to time....
And finally, we have 4 volunteer leaders thus far and would love to have 6 or 8! If you are willing to step into a rotation, please be in touch with Kim Lamb! The curriculum will be provided along with support in implementing it!

A Study for Everyone

Horne Memorial Room 213
Book $14, pay in class
Class leader: Kim Lamb
Does your faith make room for questions? Everyone has doubts. Where is God when bad things happen? Does God hear our prayers? Is there a heaven? Often, we treat such questions as the enemy of faith. But uncertainty doesn’t mean our belief is lacking. Doubt can be a path to a deeper, richer encounter with God. Whether you’re a longtime Christian or someone brand new to faith, this study will lead you to a trust in God that gives you the courage to ask tough questions. Though you may wrestle with doubt, you’ll discover a faith that includes belief and trust, as well as uncertainty and mystery.

Daily Bread Food Pantry is sponsoring Take a Sack & Bring It Back!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Daily Bread’s Summer Pack a Sack and Bring it Back campaign! The response from members and friends of Horne UMC was outstanding. Your generous donations of food and money enabled us to reach out to three elementary schools prior to Summer Break and deliver 66 boxes of food for families in need of assistance.
A special shout out to the children, families and teachers at Horne Preschool and the scouts, leaders and parents of Girl Scout Troops 4156 and 628, for organizing food drives to benefit the Daily Bread. Your donations were a difference maker!
Our next delivery of food boxes will be during orientation in August. Food donations may be left at any time in the designated boxes on the back porch of the Lassiter House. It is a blessing to be part of such a caring community.
For any inquiries or assistance, feel free to contact Jean Lomax at 678-983-3563 or Bill Brock at 919-437-9008. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to helping those in need. Together, we can make a difference!
