ALA Johnston JH/HS Summer Reading Program
(English Honors and History Honors Classes)
ALA Johnston is excited to announce a summer reading program required for students in English Honors and/or History Honors courses in grades 7-10.
Students will read one selected book from the reading list over the course of the summer break. The culminating assignment for the program will be completed in two parts: a journal and a multimedia product. Students are to use the journal to take notes and record their thoughts as they read so they can recall information relevant to their final project in their respective English and History classes when they return to school, due September 12, 2022.
Book selections align with ALA Johnston's mission, vision, and values. Likewise, they address relevant issues in a responsible and thoughtful manner. We have included books that offer a range of reading levels. It is our hope that this program will be a shared experience between students and families.
Please Note: If the student has only one English Honors or History Honors course, both the journal and multimedia project will be turned in to the Honors teacher, and each half of the project will be indicated separately in the grade book.
