Building New Lives: Construction Updates

HomeAid Atlanta has four projects in progress, with more in development.

Breakthru House

Two new homes to add 31 beds for women and mothers overcoming addiction with Builder Captain Taylor Morrison. In the final phases of permitting.

North Georgia Angel House

New family visitation center for foster youth led by Bulder Captain Taylor Morrison. In the final phases of permitting.

Gigi's House

Framing is in progress. When complete, this supportive services building at Gigi's House will provide space for 20 girls escaping sex trafficking to go to school, meet with counselors, and more. Meritage Homes leads work on this project.

Veterans Empowerment Organization (VE0)

Lennar is leading renovations at VEO, shown on-site below with project partners Lanehart Electrical Contractors, Bison Plumbing, and Superior Indoor Comfort. When complete, this project will provide nine affordable housing units for veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

New Project Possibilities

HomeAid Atlanta is currently receiving inquiries for several new projects, some of which are commercial projects. HomeAid Completes Seven Care Days

HomeAid Atlanta has completed 7 Care Days in the first half of 2024, thanks to the support of hardworking volunteers and generous donations of funds and building materials. Each year, HomeAid completes ten or more Care Days, hands-on volunteer workdays, free-of-charge for nonprofits providing housing and services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The first 7 Care Days of 2024 have already provided a savings of over $81,000 on repairs and maintenance. • June 22 - Crossroads Community Ministries with Steven Sanders-Myers

HomeAid's next Care Day is set for July 19 at Crossroads Community Ministries. The June 22 Care Day led by longtime HomeAid volunteer Steven Sanders-Myers with Brightwater Homes provided prep work for the July 19 event. Volunteers from Juneau Construction Company, Atlanta SMC, and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Young Professionals Group will be on hand to paint and more.

Why HomeAid Care Days?

HomeAid Care Days provide free-of-charge maintenance and repairs for nonprofits providing housing and services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. These savings can be used to directly help families and individuals who come to these nonprofits for help and hope, like Deonna, a former resident at House of Dawn. House of Dawn was the site of two April 2024 Care Days that provided savings of about $20,000 on construction and landscaping costs (photo above). House of Dawn provides housing and supportive services to young mothers and their children at risk of homelessness, as well as workforce affordable housing.

Deonna chose to save her baby when friends and family suggested otherwise. She was four months pregnant when she arrived at House of Dawn. She immediately felt she was in the right place. While at House of Dawn, she learned how to be a responsible and independent new mom. She enrolled in college, never before dreaming she would become a college student. She also secured her driving permit and learned to drive.

Coastal States Bank Packs 500

HomeAid CareKits

On June 11, Coastal States Bank employees (photo above) packed 500 HomeAid CareKits for Blessings Working Together, an organization supporting young families at risk of homelessness by providing counseling, life skills training, hands-on parenting education, and more.

“Thank you, HomeAid Atlanta and Coastal States Bank, for your incredible generosity and hard work! The 500 HomeAid CareKits you packed will make a significant difference in the lives of families living in extended stay motels and beyond,” said Taressa Lumpkin Williams, Founder and Director of Blessings Working Together, shown here (center) with Carol Stone, Coastal States Bank Home Builder Group Senior Vice President (left), and Mandy Crater, HomeAid Atlanta Executive Director.

“We are grateful for your support and partnership in our Blessings Impact Communities Outreach Program. Together, we are bringing hope and essential supplies to those who need it most,” said Taressa. Watch the video below to see Coastal States Bank pack 500 CareKits.
