Expressions of Culture and Identity at Brush Art Gallery and Studios

in Lowell, Massachusetts through July 30

Brush Art Gallery and Studios presents Expressions of Culture and Identity, an exhibition that features the work of 23 artists from Massachusetts and New Hampshire who were invited to "explore their culture or personal identity through the visual arts." The theme aligns with a soon-to-be installed exhibit by the Lowell National Historical Park. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. Brush Art Gallery and Studios is located at 256 Market Street, Lowell, MA. For more information, please visit here.

QuarryArt at the Cape Ann Museum

in Gloucester, Massachusetts, through July 30

Cape Ann Museum presents QuarryArt, an exhibition that brings together the work of nine artists under in collaboration with freelance photographer and Boston Globe reporter David Arnold. The nine artists, Tsar Fedorsky, Albert Glazier, Paul Cary Goldberg, Skip Montello, Olivia Parker, Martin Ray, Katherine Richmond, Steve Rosenthal and Constance Vallis photographed area quarries to "highlight economic importance of quarries centuries ago." The museum is open on Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Cape Ann Museum is located at 13 Poplar Street, Gloucester MA. For more information, please visit here.

Why am I Here? at 3S Artspace

in Portsmouth, New Hampshire through August 20

3S Artspace presents Why am I Here?, a show featuring the artwork Mexican American artist Natalie Fisk who makes "sculptures, drawings, and paintings that utilize the symbol of Papel Picado to draw attention to the experiences that have marked [her] life." Papel Picado is a "decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper." The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. 3S Artspace is located at 319 Vaughn Street, Portsmouth, NH. For more information, please visit here.

“Kent Monkman: The Great Mystery”

The Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth, presents “Kent Monkman: The Great Mystery,” an exhibition featuring a new body of paintings by Cree artist Kent Monkman—including two commissioned works for the Hood Museum of Art's permanent collections. Unlike anything we have seen from him before! We are also very excited to welcome him to campus on October 13 as our annual Dr. Allen W. Root Contemporary Distinguished Art lecturer.


The museum is open Wednesday, 11 am–5 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 11 am–8 p.m., and Saturday, 1–5 p.m.
