The district has set aside Thursday, October 1st, and Friday, October 2nd, for teachers to work on further improving their Canvas skills and to better support students in online learning. Please have your student refer to the Daily Announcements, Leigh Instagram and or Leigh Activities Google Classroom for activities happening these two daysHere is a link to the A/B calendar on our website for reference.

Mental Health during Distance Learning: Mental health is always critical but especially so during Distance Learning. Our community partner, Uplift, held both a student and parent workshop. The student workshop focused on how to cope during DL and the parent one focused on how to support your teen during DL.

Construction Update:

  • Pool: The pool is almost completed! A few finishing touches are being completed now.

  • Charging Stations: Construction is wrapping up on the electric car charging stations in the front office parking lit.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS

Academic Tutoring
We are in need of parent volunteers to provide academic tutoring and support for students during class time. Rama Nemani is our Academic Tutoring Coordinator. We have an immediate need for someone willing to help in a physics class from 1-2:10pm on Mondays and Thursdays. There will also be needs in other classes. Please share with Rama your contact information and the subjects in which you are comfortable. Rama's email is academictutoring@leighhsc.org. Once Rama receives your information, she will work with you on next steps. Please also reach out to her with any questions you may have on this program.

Student Clubs Support
We are working with our Activities Director, Anthoney Roe, to set up parent support/mentoring for our clubs. Clubs will have varying needs and we are in the process of gathering feedback from them directly to better understand what kind of support would be most beneficial. Anne Haro is our Club Support Coordinator and will share details with you shortly. In the meantime, Mr. Roe has some immediate mentoring needs in the Robotics Club and LIDA (dance club). Please contact Mr. Roe directly at aroe@cuhsd.org if you can help with these clubs. More info on support needed for other clubs coming soon!

LEIGH CAR STICKERS

The Home & School Club purchased car stickers to share with our families. Due to a shipping error, these unfortunately did not arrive on time to be distributed when students came to campus at the start of the school year. If you would like a car sticker (no cost), please share your contact information in this form and we will share with you a pick up location. #LeighProud!
ORDER A LEIGH FACE MASK

Purchase a face mask with our Leigh logo. We are selling these masks at cost ($9). Our goal is to help create community spirit – we are #allinthistogether. Go Longhorns!

Deadline to order a face mask is end of October. Any questions, please contact Susan Smith at corresponding_sec@leighhsc.org
VOTE YES ON MEASURE L: PARCEL TAX RENEWAL FOR CUHSD

Our Leigh Home & School Club supports the campaign to Vote YES on Measure L which will be on the November 3rd, 2020 ballot.

Measure L is a parcel tax RENEWAL. It does not raise taxes - it simply renews existing local school funding to maintain high-quality education in our district schools: Leigh, Branham, Del Mar, Prospect, Boynton, and Westmont.

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on school district budgets.

Without Measure L, our district would have to ...

  • Cut funding for vocational and career technical education pathways for students
  • Cut funding for electives that help students find and develop their passions
  • Cut funding for advanced classes that prepare students for college and career
  • Cut funding for mental health supports to our high school youth
  • Cut funding for computer and technology skills training needed to prepare students for high-demand jobs in high-tech, health care, and engineering
  • Increase class sizes

We need Measure L to pass so that our district can also...

  • Navigate the short-term challenges of COVID-19
  • Provide safe and clean high schools
  • Attract and retain highly qualified teachers

WE LOVE OUR TEACHERS!

This month we dropped off some chips for a "grab & go" snack station plus little containers of play dough for the teachers to use to sculpt their best LONGHORN! Check out two of our teacher's creations below. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who contributed to this teacher treat.
