We hope to offer other courses during the April break to support our students getting back on track.

  • Distance Learning: We are currently in Phase 1 (distance learning with limited in-person support). The Board will consider Superintendent Bravo's recommendation to move into Phase 2 (expanded in-person supports) and Phase 3 (limited in-person classes for select students) at the March 4th meeting. The greatest limiting factor to reaching Phase 4 (in-person classes for all who chose it) is staffing.

  • Vaccinations for Teachers: Teachers who live in Santa Clara County are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting 2/28. Teachers who live in Santa Cruz County are eligible now.

  • School Sports: The district received information about plans for school sports from the county on Monday, February 22, so details will be forthcoming soon.

  • Summer School: The district is planning to have summer school at all school sites this summer. The focus will be on credit recovery.

  • Over 300 parents/guardians attended last week’s information session hosted by the District Office regarding the Phased Return to In-Person High School Services. If you were unable to attend, the recordings of the sessions can be accessed on the CUHSD website by clicking here
  • In his most recent newsletter, CUHSD Superintendent Dr. Bravo shared his plans to recommend to the Board of Trustees at the March 4 Regular Board meeting that the District begin the process of moving to Level 2 "Distance Learning + Expanded In-Person Support and Activities" and Level 3 "In-Person Instruction for Prioritized Students" laid out in a Phased Return to In-Person High School Services Plan. Level 4 "In-Person Instruction by Family Preference" is not expected this academic year.

  • The CUHSD Board Meeting on March 4th at 6:00pm will be available to watch live here. Dr. Bravo's recommendation will be discussed at this meeting. Agenda available here. Instructions to make a public comment available here.

  • We need subs: The estimated need for substitutes is approximately 15-25 substitutes per school site. We also need to have enough substitutes to cover for any potential teachers who need to isolate or quarantine from potential COVID-19 exposures. As we continue to work to expand in-person support services for students this semester, we are hiring additional tutors, student aides and substitute teachers. For those interested in pursuing these positions, or for those interested in pursuing a teaching credential, the District Office will be hosting several virtual hiring information sessions on the following dates:
  • March 2, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • March 9, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Leigh Home & School Club invites you to join our Board and Committees next year. Given that many of our students and staff will be on campus for the first time in a long time, this will be a different year for all of us and we will need to provide more support than ever to our entire community.

Most Home & School Club tasks are done from home and do not require you to be at school. All skills and interests are needed, and you can put in as much or as little time as you have available. We have a variety of projects such as ... project planning, community building, financial management, communications, fundraising, gardening, writing, technology support, volunteer coordination, College & Career Center support etc. If you have a skill you'd like to share or you are someone who just likes to get stuff done, please get in touch!

We also need parents for once-off projects such as Student Registration Support in August, the Stampede 5K Run/Walk in May, and Senior Grad Night in June.

Many of our Board roles are shared by two people, and we have multiple people on each of our committees. The more people we have, the more fun it is and the easier it is for all as we can share the workload. This is a wonderful way to support our school and also get to know other parents in our community!

We would love to chat with you and discuss options that might work for you. Please contact our co-presidents at president@leighhsc.org for more information.

Join us and help make a difference at Leigh.

Do you work at a company that offers grants to non-profits?

Mental wellness is the foundation of social emotional learning and is critical for our students to be able to thrive in today’s challenging environments. To give our Leigh students much-needed tools to learn about mental wellness, our Leigh Admin has partnered with the HAERT Program for the 2020-21 school year.

The HSC has partially funded this program and are in the process of raising additional funds through corporate donations to cover the remaining cost. If you work at a company that offers grants to nonprofits, we’re asking for your support to secure corporate funding that will help cover the program cost.

Please check your company website, or reach out to your HR department or your Community Outreach department, to determine if your company offers grants to non-profits (Leigh Home & School Club is a 501(c)(3)). If they do, please connect with us at haertfundraising@leighhsc.org and we will provide the necessary information and help walk you through the process.
