Holy Week is the last week of Lent and the week preceding Easter Sunday. During Holy Week, we remember the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the importance of the Last Supper with his disciples, and his suffering, death, burial and resurrection.

Central United Methodist Church Worship Design Team created this daily Holy Week devotion that allows you to read scripture, pray and listen to music that expresses the importance of this Holy Season.

Now Behold the Lamb of God Who Gave His Life Just For Me.

Luke 23: 39-49

39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

The Death of Jesus

44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[b] When he had said this, he breathed his last.

47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

Prayer: Forgiving God, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice of Your Beloved Son on the cross of Calvary. Thank You for Your plan of redemption and salvation for us to be in a relationship with You and to live with You forever. We are thankful that Jesus through all his pain granted forgiveness from the cross and enables believers, who come to Him even in their last moments, to have everlasting life with Him in Paradise. We know that Jesus forgave those who persecuted Him and placed Him on the cross. Thank You for bearing our sins and forgiving us every day. Help us forgive the people who have sinned against us. Fill our hearts with the love, mercy, and grace that kept Jesus on the cross for us. Give us the obedience that Jesus demonstrated at Calvary. Too often, we fall short in our obedience, but because of Jesus, we can confess our sins and know You are faithful to forgive. Thank You for Your amazing love and grace through Christ, that gives all, so that we might live. We rest in faith that His sacrifice covers our sins. His grace is sufficient for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
