Savannah, GA, November 17, 2022 - Live Oak Public Libraries is hosting a special exhibit on the Holocaust. The touring exhibit is in partnership with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Public Library Service. The project is part of an effort to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and to promote public understanding of the history.
Georgia’s Response to the Holocaust: Survivors and Liberators will be on display at Oglethorpe Mall Library through December 14, 2022. The exhibit examines the stories of courage of Holocaust survivors and liberators who were or became Georgia citizens.
“The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Georgia’s public libraries offer a wealth of local and regional history for Georgia residents. Partnering to ensure the Holocaust and World War II are not forgotten is a natural decision so we can share this important history widely across our communities,” said Sally N. Levine, Executive Director, Georgia Commission on the Holocaust.
Library staff will have access to educational materials and reading lists for all ages provided by the Commission to help patrons explore the lives of those affected by the Holocaust as well as the massive toll it took on society as a whole.
“We are honored to be hosting such an important exhibit,” says Library Executive Director Lola Shelton-Council. “It is imperative to remember our history. This is a powerful display that shows the past cannot and should not be forgotten.”
In addition to the exhibit, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 4:00PM, Oglethorpe Mall Library will also host a screening with clips from and discussion of The U.S. and the Holocaust, a documentary film by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein. This event is also in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
