The Appomattox Regional Library System (ARLS) Presents Preserving Your History

Hopewell, VA, 4/23/2020- The Appomattox Regional Library System is creating an archive of primary sources documenting the accounts of life during the pandemic. The library wants to preserve the communities thoughts, memories, and stories so future generations in our community will get a glimpse of daily lives during a 21st century pandemic, the adjustments made, the emotions felt and actions taken by those in our communities. The library wants contributions from the residents of Hopewell, Dinwiddie County and Prince George County as well as the surrounding area.

Residents are invited to submit diary entries, reflections, photographs, and other pieces about life during the coronavirus pandemic. Examples of pieces include experiences about working from home, the shift to online learning, self-quarantining, social distancing, coping with the virus and more. Submissions can be made at www.arls.org through a Google Form. Those who prefer may submit physical documents by mail, to “Preserving your history project,” Appomattox Regional Library system, 209 E. Cawson Street, Hopewell, VA 23860. All original physical items submitted will be returned to the sender upon request but copies will be part of the library’s collection. The archive will be made public in the future, once materials are collected and sorted.
