Message from the Principal

Octavia Reid

Greetings Hilltop Families,

Thank you PTO for providing an awesome Staff Appreciation Week. The treats provided brightened each day.

Kudos to Mrs. Rice and the student council for another great event. Last week students enjoyed a spirit week that ended with a Friday movie, glow party, and silly stringing Dr. Reid. The students enjoyed their morning of activities.

If you missed the spring choir concert, you truly missed out. Mrs. Haute and company gave a great performance that reminded us all of the importance of diversity and inclusion. Students were empowered that they, too, can change the world.

Our school community also enjoyed gathering for the special groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday. Special thanks to Ms. Haight for organizing a wonderful student performance of "Music Changes the World" by Jim Papoulis.

We have another exciting week ahead with our Read-a-Thon! I look forward to spending time reading a good book alongside my students as well as our special guest visit from author Chante Thomas.

Have a great weekend!

Educationally Yours,

Dr. Octavia Reid

Hilltop Principal

Happening Next Week! Hilltop Read-a-Thon and Author Visit

Students will participate in the PTO sponsored Read-A-Thon spirit week May 13-17. Students need to have a book to read everyday during this week. We look forward to a fun-filled week of reading and discovery!

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Takavitz

The students in Mrs. Takavitz's third-grade science class enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a chicken. Students were engaged in the process from beginning to end starting with the egg, incubation, embryo development (21 days), hatching, growth and development. The students were so excited to watch the chicks begin to grow, develop feathers, and become independent!

Community Presentations on Elementary Facilities Project and Playgrounds

The Beachwood community is invited to join us on Monday, May 20, at the Beachwood Board of Education office for important presentations related to the elementary facilities project. Starting at 6:00 p.m. the architectural design team will present the playground design concepts for the new Bryden and Hilltop Schools. The community will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with the design team. A second presentation will follow at 7:00 p.m. during the Board of Education meeting. This presentation will update attendees on the estimated budget as design development concludes for the two schools. Free childcare is available. For more information about the project, please visit our Elementary Facilities Updates webpage.

Cuyahoga County Library Summer Reading Program

Hilltop library has collaborated with the Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) on several classroom assignments such as the National Parks and genre project. We are going to continue to collaborate with the library for their Summer Reading Program. The "Adventure Begins at the Library" program runs from June 1 through July 31. Register online or at your local CCPL branch. You can start tracking your reading goal progress on June 1 for a chance to earn great prizes. Experts recommend 20 minutes of reading each day, but you can set a daily reading goal that works for you. There are three ways to play, online through Beanstack, on the Tracker app, or on a printed game board from your local branch. Happy Reading!
